Honestly, I think that moment it was the accelerator for all of this craziness. Because it took the absolutely unquestionable taboo topic and made it extremely reasonable to question and it was the Pandora’s box that could not be closed. Yeah the first season was really awful . I honestly couldn't stand Picard because he was such a limp noodle . And I pretty sure they were just trying to find another natural enemy because the Klingons are now allies so they were gone and the romulans were nowhere to be seen . And thank God Picard got a backbone in later seasons because it was very disappointing for someone who grew up on Kirk and Spock
