[CASE STUDY] AI in Sport Management: Inside the FIFA World Cup 2026 ⚽
As the 2026 FIFA World Cup enters the Round of 16, AI is becoming just as important as tactics on the pitch. At the center is Football AI Pro, the Generative AI platform developed by FIFA and Lenovo. Built on hundreds of millions of match events, thousands of historical games, and more than 2,000 performance metrics, it helps teams turn massive amounts of football data into real-time decisions.
But Football AI Pro is only one part of a much bigger AI ecosystem.
🔹 Football AI Pro: A football-specific AI assistant that delivers tactical insights, opponent analysis, match reviews, interactive 3D recreations, highlight clips, and statistical reports through natural language prompts.
🔹 Sportian Performance: Used by national teams including the USMNT to combine video analysis, player tracking, and AI insights for match preparation and in-game decision making.
🔹 Semi-Automated Offside: Combines smart ball technology, multiple tracking cameras, and AI-generated 3D avatars of 1,248 players to deliver faster and more accurate offside decisions.
🔹 Referee View: AI stabilizes footage from the referee's body camera, reducing shake by up to 50 percent and creating a clearer first-person viewing experience.
🔹 Broadcast AI: Supports commentators with live insights, delivers personalized highlights, and powers low-latency streaming for millions of fans worldwide.
🔹 Digital Twin: Creates a virtual model of each stadium to monitor crowd movement, predict congestion, and improve event safety.
🔹 Performance AI: Tracks player workload to identify potential injury risks and support long-term performance management.
🔹 AI Content Moderation: Automatically detects abusive messages across social media, helping protect players, coaches, and teams throughout the tournament.
The biggest innovation may not be AI itself, but how it makes football intelligence more accessible. By giving all 48 national teams access to the same AI platform, FIFA aims to reduce the gap between football's biggest powers and emerging nations.

⚾ Data analytics
⚾ Performance tracking
⚾ Scouting intelligence
The same formula that built Taiwan's semiconductor industry may now be helping build a baseball powerhouse.

CrossFit is bringing wearable performance tracking to the Games ⌚
CrossFit has announced a long-term exclusive partnership with WurQ, naming the motion-tracking company the Official Performance Analytics Partner of both CrossFit and the CrossFit Games. The collaboration aims to introduce a new level of performance data for athletes, coaches and fans.
Unlike traditional fitness wearables that primarily measure heart rate and calories, WurQ uses a dual-sensor system to automatically detect movements, count reps, measure range of motion, velocity and power output during CrossFit workouts. The platform has been trained on more than 100,000 recorded sessions and also includes an AI assistant capable of answering training-specific questions.
CrossFit says the technology will be rolled out across its global affiliate network and integrated into the CrossFit Games, where real-time performance metrics are expected to enhance broadcasts and provide deeper insight into how elite athletes perform on the competition floor.

Every child who loves cricket starts the same way—watching, imagining, and trying to play like We have metrics for almost everything in sports.
Wins. Rankings. Attendance. TV ratings.
But we don't have a consistent way to measure the health of the athlete economy itself.
That gap inspired the Athlete Economy Index (AEI).
Every week, we'll track the momentum behind athlete monetization—not just through sponsorships, but through AI adoption, market confidence, earnings sentiment, and how much control athletes truly have over their careers.
Week 1 (June 26–July 2): 68/100.
It's a reminder that while the sports business is evolving rapidly, the biggest opportunity still lies in giving athletes greater ownership of their brands, data, and fan relationships.
Curious to see where the number goes next.

Today, LootMogul introduces the Athlete Economy Index (AEI)—a weekly benchmark designed to measure the health of the global athlete economy.
Every Monday, we'll publish a single score based on five market signals:
• Brand deal activity
• AI adoption
• Athlete earnings sentiment
• Market confidence
• Platform power shifts
Week 1 (June 26–July 2): 68/100 — Transitional.
The athlete economy is growing, but ownership, AI adoption, and direct monetization still have room to mature.
One number. Every Monday. A new way to understand where sports business is headed.
