We have just used the @Nvidia H100 onboard Starcloud-1 to train the first LLM in space! We trained the nano-GPT model from Andrej @Karpathy on the complete works of Shakespeare and successfully ran inference on it. We have also run inference on a preloaded Gemma model, and we plan to try more exciting models in the future. Getting the first H100 to work in space required a lot of innovation and hard work from the incredible Starcloud team to make this breakthrough. This is a significant first step toward moving almost all computing off Earth to reduce the burden on our energy supplies and take advantage of abundant solar energy in space! 🚀

Back in 2009 when SpaceX had not built a hangar yet, the engineers and technicians would work on the rocket in open, exposed, on the hangar's foundation. A bunch of ULA employees would drive across the road, stop at the fence and laugh and shout mocking comments at them. Today, ULA's launch pad was demolished to make way for SpaceX's new launch pad.
Today, legacy structures at historic SLC-6 were safely cleared to make way for a new era of spaceflight. With an outgrant issued by the U.S. Space Force in 2025, SpaceX is now modernizing the pad to support next generation spacelift operations.

The future of AI will be in space. Thanks @bbgoriginals for the piece on @Starcloud_
The next frontier of AI may not be on Earth. As SpaceX and other companies fuel a space boom, players around the world are racing to build data centers in orbit — betting the future of computing lies beyond our planet bloom.bg/4fLSmab

Yes, Starcloud-1 runs DOOM on its H100. Hardest part of running DOOM in orbit wasn't radiation, thermals, or bandwidth. It was resisting the urge to do this on day one.

Elon: ”At this point we have found our GPUs to be quite reliable. There is infant mortality, which you can obviously iron out on the ground. So you can just run them on the ground and confirm you don't have infant mortality with the GPUs. But once they start working and you are past the initial debug cycle of Nvidia or whoever is making the chips they are quite reliable past a certain point. So I don't think servicing will be an issue.” Exactly our operating thesis at Starcloud re. GPUs in space.

Today is the last day to apply to @ycombinator Summer 2026. Applying to YC changed the trajectory of Algolia, and my life. We were two French founders with a search API and a dream. YC gave us the network, the clarity, and the urgency to build something real. If you’re on the fence: just apply. The worst that can happen is you don't get in. The best? Everything changes. 👉 ycombinator.com/apply

Haloscalers - the hyperscalers of the 2030s. These are the current players who've laid a claim officially with FCC or have projects in the works. Who is next to announce their Haloscaling ambitions?

Automated docking is going to be the #1 super-power in building the next gen space industry. The hard part is not just doing it, but doing it correctly every single time. Failure is not an option.
While we never want to be complacent about it, docking with the @Space_Station has become routine

The 2024 @Starcloud_ white paper will be viewed historically as a significant turning point 🤓 Correction though, while we were a serious team of three, there wasn’t serious money or serious people paying attention in mid 2024. medium.com/@bailey55015/star…

NVIDIA dropped a space computing landing page too! It’s really tough to pencil Dario’s 2030 GW demand forecasts on land.

Very good reading. We published our ”Data Centers in Space” white paper in September 2024 with very similar conclusions but lots of pushback initially. It was a bold idea back then and now it is (almost) mainstream less than three years later. What a ride!

Sundar Pichai just said data centers in space will be "the new normal" within a decade. @elonmusk has been saying this for years. When the CEO of Google starts agreeing with Elon, pay attention. The orbital compute era is closer than you think.
