Anyone who’s ever felt multi-month burnout should be able to sympathize with this. Being a top athlete takes everything you have and then some (see Stanford skier girl grindslop clip that everyone was glazing) Neymar made generational wealth, many titles with Barcelona and realized he wanted to enjoy life. Not everyone has the CR7 gene in them nor must they
Neymar career is such a sad story man, he was destined to be the second best player of this generation but everything went wrong

This isn't totally wrong but it also makes some assumptions. If you're clearing 1m at some bank/pe firm/biglaw job, you probably: - Get invited to destination weddings (flights, clothes, hotels, gifts) bachelor/ette parties; each one is maybe a ~2-5k expense (suit/dress that matches the occasion, cant cheap out etc.) - Friends want to take trips / play golf -- weekend outings easily a few grand as well -- east $500 tee time - Dinner only at i sodi level places one friend who insists on multiple $300 bottles - Wife's friend gets a car -- now you also need a car even if you'd barely use it -- now you pay $30 a day for parking - Friends want to go to knicks game, world cup etc.; 2-5k per ticket - Etc etc. Manhattan hedonic treadmill is insane & the people who get on are so status-obsessed they'll never get off.
MANHATTAN IS FOR THE RCH “I live in Manhattan, and it's just crazy seeing how people live.… You could earn $3 million a year — this is going to be a clip that someone's going to mock me for, but let me just say it — you could make $2 to $3 million a year, and seriously, with a family, and live paycheck to paycheck. It's crazy how much money people spend to live here. I know people who will spend $100,000 a month, and they tell me they don't feel rich. It's pretty wild.” @thesamparr @myfirstmilpod

they should do this every year -- its like a religious experience
My favourite firework video on the internet is this one, where 45 minutes worth of fireworks are accidentally detonated all at once on July 4th 2012 in San Diego. I had tears in my eyes, sobbing the first time I saw this. The sound is magnificent. It's the end of days.

sometime in your late 20s, throwing an event as one of the few single people in your social circle is an act of self-humiliation

Rare marketing L from Zohran. The angle, lack of energy, and sad people on the sides make this feel like something from YouTube in 2007. His peppy demeanor is his best way to get people to hear messages they otherwise don’t want to hear
JUST IN: NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani used America’s 250th anniversary to sharply criticize the country, accusing the U.S. of allowing children to go hungry while billionaires and “oligarchs” gain more power. He said America’s wealth was built by working people with “calloused, dirt-streaked hands" while accusing the country of allowing the wealth built by workers to be concentrated in “the soft hands of a precious few.”

Love this re-imagining of America’s founding using Docs, Gmail, Calendar and more from @GoogleWorkspace. Really puts the history in version history :)

props to clav for trying but absolutely not there was a time when X was slopmaxxing around 2024: - central video feed - ragebait aggregator videos - reposts from ig/tt we've thankfully moved away from that, but putting such an item front and center would be terrible the current direction that Nikita has endorsed is the right one. X should be - the best place to share your unique insights and experiences - the best place to build your brand as an individual - the best place to understand the world around you in real time

Blackpill: there are no secret societies. Just group chats of high school friends, college friends, accelerator friends, ex-coworker friends, and portco friends. And their SOs The groupchat network is the modern distributed illuminati
pretty strong evidence the stagnation is over is that people believe in secret societies again. a world in which secret societies exist is a society where things actually happen that seem beyond the reach of any single individual. bullish.
