Army Chief Honours Assam Veteran Col. Dibya Shankar Bhattacharya with Commendation Card and Medal!

#Assam, Colonel Dibya Shankar Bhattacharya (Retd), with a Chief of Army Staff Commendation Card and Medal at an official ceremony held in
#Tezpur on Saturday. While presenting the award, the Army Chief lauded Col. Bhattacharya's dedicated service to the Nation and highlighted his exemplary contributions both during and after his distinguished military career. General Dwivedi remarked that even after retirement, Col. Bhattacharya has continued to embody the highest ideals of duty, commitment, integrity, and professional excellence.
The Army Chief further stated that Col. Bhattacharya has made invaluable and unparalleled contributions towards the progress and development of the country. Through his exemplary conduct and selfless service, he has set a remarkable precedent not only for fellow veterans but also for citizens across the nation.
Col. Dibya Shankar Bhattacharya served the
#IndianArmy with distinction for over 33 years. He holds the unique distinction of being the first individual from Assam to secure All India Rank-1 in the UPSC National Defence Academy (NDA) Examination. During his illustrious military career, he served in operational areas along both the Pakistan and Chinese borders and actively participated in Operation Rakshak counter-insurgency operations in Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir, as well as Operation Parakram .
An outstanding military professional, Col. Bhattacharya also achieved the distinction of standing first in the prestigious Senior Officers Course of the Indian Army. Throughout his service, he held several important and prestigious appointments and also served on deputation as a Director in the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), where he distinguished himself through exemplary leadership and administrative excellence.
Following his retirement from the Army, Col. Bhattacharya has continued to contribute significantly to society. He is currently practising as an Advocate at the Gauhati High Court and serves as a Professor of Practice at Arya Vidyapeeth College, Guwahati. Driven by his commitment to nation-building, he established the Dibya Shankar Foundation, which mentors and guides students from the North East, particularly Assam, aspiring to join the Indian Armed Forces. His efforts have inspired numerous young men and women to pursue careers in the defence services.
In recognition of his commendable and selfless service to society, Col. Bhattacharya was recently conferred the Sarvottam Sadhna Award 2026 by Assam Live.
