New robot things coming along at the lab Multimodal semi-humanoid robot: (1) UGV mode it uses its tracks to move around non-holonomic terrain, flippers enable nudge itself (2) In Quadruped mode (dog robot mode) the flippers turn into 4 legs which allow for slow pace locomotion

Btw, the formal name is โ€œFootstep Language Action (FLA)โ€ model. But, it sounds too boring and generic for a foundation model, so Iโ€™m open to naming suggestions.
Working on a new topic and hardware for a while: Feet Language Action models. VLAs teach robots to act through vision and language FLAs teach legged robots to act through contact Given a task, terrain, body state, and instruction - decide where, when, and how to make contact

Interesting how all โ€œshipping soonโ€ home robots are converging on similar designs with some gradation on the grippers actuators. Subscription price (monthly or per visit) is also smart for adoption. @NoriRobotics 1.2k @weaverobotics 8k @sundayrobotics ~10k (20k one off unit)

A team from Japan gave a Bonsai tree a robot body, and now it can walk autonomously. Itโ€™s the most beautiful thing Iโ€™ve seen.

This video is literally the prequel to Pacific Rim mech development.
After building a 9-ton teleoperated robotic arm, they made a 20-meter-tall teleoperated mechanical leg to kick a Car.

This is true.

Our open source software / hardware was a decade ahead of everyone else. Where's our $100M round and $2B valuations? Instead open source is fighting for scraps and still beating startups.

This is a fact. I don't know what else to say.
The robot demo that draws a crowd in person is almost never the one that goes viral online. At every robotics floor we've been on, from CES to ICRA, the longest line isn't the backflip. It's the robot folding shirts.

A nascent research field is: Animal-Robot Interaction (ARI) It is the study and design of interaction between robots and non-human animals It sits between HRI, animal-computer interaction, ethology, biorobotics, animal welfare, and AI perception/control

Robot dog harasses biological dog, while humanoid robot watches in approval. This is the most dystopian thing Iโ€™ve seen.

Definitely an interesting experience. But, also definitely early in the market. Androids have a long way to go. Besides attempting to develop hyperrealistic humanoid bodies, these androids need improved human-robot interaction design (if autonomous), and proprioception.
UBTECH Launches UWORLD U1 โ€” The Worldโ€™s First Full-Size Mass-Produced Ultra-Bionic Humanoid Robot ๐Ÿค– SHENZHEN, China โ€” On June 30, 2026, UBTECH hosted its 2026 Global Launch Event in Shenzhen, unveiling its long-term vision for humanโ€“robot symbiosis and officially introducing the UWORLD U1 Series, the worldโ€™s first full-size ultra-bionic humanoid robot designed for mass production. As of the day of the launch, cumulative orders for the UWORLD U1 Series had surpassed 13,361 units. Under the theme Endless Love, the event marked a step into a new era of hyper-bionic coexistence โ€” from body to emotion, from symbiosis to resonance. To everyone who witnessed it, supported it, and believed in it โ€” thank you for being part of this moment. From now on, youโ€™ll never be alone. #UBTECH #UWORLD #HumanoidRobot #ConsumerRobotics #Robotics #AI #GlobalLaunch

UBTech also had a theatrical play with their androids. It answered the following: What happens when youโ€™re old and your children canโ€™t visit? What happens when your loved ones pass away and you miss them? What happens when you canโ€™t find a partner made out of flesh and bone?
Every man and his robot girlfriend will live this story. Would you still buy an android girlfriend?

Besides showcasing their new androids, I believe todayโ€™s UBTech announcement is a pushing towards more research on areas such as synthetic skin (e-skin), telepresence and human-robot interaction. Their entire set up is pretty much WestWorld themed.
Iโ€™m in China, at UBTechโ€™s launch event of the U1 android series and itโ€™s insane!! These are full-size bionic humanoid robots they plan to ship end of 2026. I like that a lot of their models have western fantasy style and some of them look like they belong in Legend of Zelda.
