One thing summer teaches you as a coach is that kids do not stay the same long enough for you to waste the time you get with them.
I look back on this year and I am grateful for more than wins, records, and the moments people saw. I am grateful for the athletes I got to coach while they were still becoming who they are going to be. They walked in one version of themselves and left another. Some got tougher. Some found confidence. Some learned that hard work is not a saying. Some learned that being on a team means giving more than you take.
That is the part that stays with me. You only get them for a short window, and then that version of them is gone. Next year they will be older, different, and further down the road.
You never coach the same athlete twice.
Winners Win.
