Agents simplifying everything to file systems reminds me of Hadoop.
Hadoop’s big idea was that analysts can just write scripts that access files directly instead of specialized interfaces like SQL. Substitute people with agents and now you’re in 2025…
I think we will relearn the same lessons: modeling every problem as a file system is slow, brittle, and insecure at any interesting scale.
The reason this happens every N years, however, is that as computing paradigms change, the abstractions we have built up to support them start to crack. File systems allow you to cut past them and reinvent things from scratch. In the data world, many of the ideas from Hadoop (eg parallel compute at scale) found their way into Snowflake and Databricks, which are much more sophisticated abstractions.
I’m quite excited to see the new abstractions that emerge from our collective learnings right now. I’m also bearish that filesystems are the long term solution.

NVIDIA and SoftBank will be part of the new funding round for Skild AI. Skild is backed by Amazon and was founded by former META researchers. A $14 billion valuation would mean they have tripled in valuation since June.

In the last four weeks, @tryramp Research (our AI analyst agent in slack) has answered 1,476 questions, compared to 66 in our help data channel.
This is one of my favorite projects that we've shipped. Our team built an agentic solution based on tools to index domain docs, to search tables and columns, to run SQL iteratively: reasoning through data challenges the way a human would.
As @bennstancil wrote: data's constant presence in an organization is like knowing the count of the deck. Though it makes us a bit more informed in each decision, the effect is only felt in the aggregate, as the small edge compounds over time.
We are making a lot more data-driven decisions at Ramp than we were two months ago!

I remember visiting the Zipline offices when they were working out of two portable buildings on a cattle farm in Monterey. They bought the airspace above the farm to test their drones. It’s hard to express how inspiring that was to see as a kid. When I think about small teams changing the world, I think of the Zipline team. Absolutely pumped for these guys
