UEFA issues strong condemnation of FIFA over its decision to lift Balogun suspension for USA. UEFA by far the most powerful regional body in world football and can make life very difficult indeed for the FIFA chief. Champions League, Premier League, LA Liga in particular, global cash cows for the sport that even American sponsorship involvement can't get near.

Something FIFA appear to have completely underestimated when signing off Balogun decision is the current U.S. administration will always prioritize claiming credit over how something is seen optically, and if (in their eyes) it winds up buttoned-up Europeans, then even better.

Mussolini tenía tan claro que Italia debía ganar el mundial de 1934 como propaganda fascista, que utilizó a los árbitros para ello. Tras un juego sucio permitido durante todo el torneo, el momento álgido llegó en semifinales contra Austria, cuando, minutos después de haber dado como legal un gol en el que arrollaron al portero, el propio árbitro paró un contragolpe de Austria con la cabeza. Solo dejo aquí este dato de la influencia de los dictadores en los mundiales de fútbol.
