Michael Oliseโ€™s journey is not evidence that every released academy player will reach the very top. That is not the message. The message is this, young players are still changing far too much for adults to make final decisions about who they can become. Olise joined Chelsea at nine, where he spent years inside an elite academy environment. Then, at 14, Chelsea released Michael, following his exit he moved north Manchester City's academy, this stint lasted only a year before he was released again. For a short period, the route forward looked uncertain. โ€ข No major academy. โ€ข Obvious next step unclear โ€ข Uncertain that another club would take the chance. Then Reading opened the door. Olise continued his development, earned his opportunity, and made his senior debut in the Championship at 17. By 19, he was a Premier League player with Crystal Palace. At 22, he had joined Bayern Munich. Now 24, he's representing France on the World Cup stage. So what changed? โ€ข Time โ€ข Patience โ€ข Confidence โ€ข Maturity โ€ข Opportunity โ€ข Technical growth โ€ข The right environment Children do not all develop on the same timetable. One player may look ahead early, while another needs longer physically, socially or emotionally. A few may simply need enough support to stay in the game while the rest of their development catches up. That is why early certainty in youth football can be so misleading. The job of youth sport should not be to close doors too quickly based on a snapshot. It should be to leave enough room for children to grow, change, struggle, recover and continue. The player who looks like they have fallen behind at 9, 10, 11 or 14 may still be a long way from their ceiling. How much can anyone really know about a childโ€™s future at nine? @SundayShare10 | #SundayShare

Good session this ๐Ÿ‘‡
Creating Scoring Opportunities | Space is Behind ๐Ÿ“Œ Finishing chances when through on goal. ๐ŸŸฉ Set-Up: โœ”๏ธ Pitch Size: Set up the playing area as shown. Orange shaded area approx 40 by 30-yard space. โœ”๏ธThe slide-in zone is approximately 30-40 yards toward the larger goal, but the corners of the playing area are funnelled toward the edge of the box. ๐Ÿ‘• Teams: โšซ๏ธs vs ๐Ÿ”ดs with ๐ŸŸกs acting as support and ๐ŸŸข (GKs). ๐Ÿงฉ How to Play: โœ”๏ธ The โšซ๏ธs start as the attacking team. The ๐Ÿ”ดs start as the defending team. โœ”๏ธ The aim for the โšซ๏ธs is to slide in a runner beyond the orange zone towards the larger goal. โœ”๏ธ The practice always starts with a ๐ŸŸก who serves to the attacking team. โœ”๏ธOnce they achieve this 2 attackers (โšซ๏ธs) can break out to goal and play against two recovering defenders (๐Ÿ”ดs). โœ”๏ธ If the (๐Ÿ”ดs) win the ball in the orange zone they score in the orange mini-goals and transition to become the attacking team. โœ”๏ธ If the (๐Ÿ”ดs) win the ball in the breakout zone, they score on the red mini goals placed on the corners of the breakout zone. If they score, they become the attacking team. โœ”๏ธ When a breakout occurs another ball is served into the orange-shaded zone where the attacking team aims to keep the ball with the ๐ŸŸกs until another breakout can occur. โ€จ ๐Ÿšง Constraints: ๐Ÿ†Reward: Become the attacking team if you win back the ball and score in any mini goal. ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿซ Review: The different types of runs to receive the ball (blindside, OUT to IN) ๐Ÿšซ Restriction: Time limit on breakouts (6 seconds to finish) it the defending team becomes the attacking one and is served the next ball. @SundayShare10 #SundayShare โœ๏ธ Created On: @SSPlanner @Coach_Osku @205_Academy @BreakthruSoccer @TheS_Resource @MoSouisse @PeterPrickett @JB_SoccerCoach @SessionShareNet

My @SundayShare10 ๐Ÿ“Œ5v5 2 Neutrals | Protect/ Find the Red Zone. ๐Ÿ“ŒSet-Up: 30m x 18m area, full-size goal at each end with GKs. 2 teams of 5 2 neutral players in the red zone. ๐Ÿ“ŒExplanation: Blue build 5v1 and try to break the line into the neutrals. Neutrals combine to finish. If defenders win it, they counter to goal. Play restarts from the GK. 1โƒฃAttacking Points: โœ… Find the neutrals early โœ… Move to create passing lanes โœ… Neutrals receive, combine, finish quick 2โƒฃDefending Points: โœ… Press with timing โœ… Stay connected on the halfway line โœ… Track neutrals and counter fast @TacticalPad #SoccerDrills #FootballCoaching #Coaching @JB_SoccerCoach @PeterPrickett @CoachingFamily @TheS_Resource @JustcoachMD @HubFcc @CoachRobPorter @SessionShareNet @Coach_Osku @power_ray @Coach_Osku @205_Academy @BreakthruSoccer @tom_skeath @d1kicker @CoachUdofia

โšฝ๏ธ Phase 4 defending drill I use to coach defending the box. Every team will eventually be forced to defend inside their own penalty area. Get this part right, and you can 100% focus on what to build on top of that!
I'm a big believer in setting standards through our behaviour, not just though our words. If we want attributes like punctuality and commitment from our players, it falls down if we aren't role modeling the same behaviours as their coaches. Do as I do, not just as I say๐Ÿค

My understanding really peaked when I started to understand the difference between complex and complicated
The game is complex. Our language doesnโ€™t need to be. Strip it back to the principles. Trust the players. What are you overcomplicating?

One of the points I shared as part of @power_ray's webinar series: Our brain has a negativity bias because its main job is survival, so it naturally looks for threats. It's about learning how to respond to these worries. "Pain is part of life. Suffering is optional"

No more nonsense. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ Letโ€™s just stop the constant drilling of young players. We claim you must โ€œcrawl before you walkโ€ - blah, blah arguments. Itโ€™s not true that we must drill skills before kids can play. It cripples development. And we continue to perpetuate it in soccer. Itโ€™s a myth gone terribly wrong for our kids. Stop the nonsense and get kids playing. โ€œWhen we learn, when we relate to the game, itโ€™s with absolute freedom. I take the ball and my brother, my cousin, or my friend two years older takes it away from me. How do I get it back later? Thatโ€™s the game; itโ€™s not something robotic.โ€ Pochettino #TOVO #intelligentfootball @TaylorTwellman @AlexiLalas @landondonovan @RobStoneONFOX @ussoccer @TimHowardGK @stevemagness @GlennCrooks
