Water Supply Interruptions for Customers on Mutungo Hill and Surrounding Areas Over the past two decades, Greater Kampala has experienced rapid urban expansion, with new residential estates, commercial centres, industries, and informal settlements significantly increasing water demand beyond the capacity of the original distribution infrastructure. To address this challenge, the Government of Uganda, through the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC), is implementing the Kampala Water Lake Victoria Water and Sanitation Project โ€“ Package 2B: Rehabilitation, Restructuring, Rezoning, and Extension of the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area Water Supply Network. Key Project Components: 1.Construction of approximately 71 kilometres of large-diameter primary water transmission and distribution pipelines. 2.Construction of three major service reservoirs at Kanyanya, Kabulengwa, and Mutungo. 3.Construction of three booster pumping stations at Kungu/Buwate, Kabulengwa, and Mutungo. 4.Associated operational facilities to support reliable water service delivery. Upon completion, the project will significantly improve water supply to Kira, Kasangati, Kanyanya, Gayaza Road, Kitezi, Kawanda, Matugga, Kawempe, Nansana, Mutungo, Bweyogerere, Wakiso, and surrounding areas. It will benefit approximately one million additional people, bringing the total population served by NWSC in Greater Kampala to about six million people. Pipe-laying works and installation of a 2-million-litre reservoir are currently ongoing on Mutungo Hill. These works require interconnecting the new system with the existing network, which may necessitate temporary water supply interruptions in the area. Our engineers are working around the clock to complete the works as quickly as possible and to keep any disruptions to a minimum. We sincerely regret the inconvenience caused and appreciate your understanding as we build a more reliable water supply system for the future #waterman @NWSCMD

Did you know? ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฌ In the last 20 years, @GovUganda thru @nwscug @NWSCMD has mentored over 80 utilities across Africa and beyond โ€” sharing knowledge, best practices, and innovative solutions in water and sanitation service delivery.
This week, we hosted a delegation from Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company (NCWSC) for a benchmarking visit on NWSCโ€™s Innovative Service Delivery Model in Informal Settlements. A great opportunity for peer learning and knowledge exchange! ๐Ÿ’ง๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฌ NWSC has rolled out several pro-poor innovations to bring clean, safe, and affordable water closer to residents in informal settlements. The visit gave our Kenyan counterparts a chance to see these solutions in action. Led by the Manager of NWSCโ€™s Urban Pro-Poor Branch, Ms. Evelyn Mukajusi, the team toured Namuwongo โ€” one of Kampalaโ€™s largest informal settlements. They observed our innovative water distribution systems up close. Highlights included inspections of: โœ… SUSTEQ Prepaid Water Meters โœ… Public Stand Posts (PSPs) These have significantly transformed water access for low-income households. The NCWSC team was particularly impressed by the advanced features: ๐ŸŒž Solar-powered operations ๐Ÿ“Š Real-time monitoring dashboards ๐Ÿ”‘ Token-based access ๐Ÿ’ฐ Automated refunds for smaller containers The delegation commended NWSCโ€™s customer-centred, technology-driven approach that enhances efficiency, transparency, and accessibility.
