Hi all, please help share this. I’m fundraising for the family of late Palestinian footballer Suleiman Al-Obeid: his widow and five children. Gaza is unbearable, basic needs are hard to access, and she is trying to provide for them but can’t do it alone chuffed.org/project/145216-h

From Arsenal reject to the whole White House gang intervening over his availability. Balogun’s career arc is genuinely insane.
Sources: President Trump, commerce secretary Howard Lutnick, and White House task force head Andrew Giuliani put together a team of elite lawyers — from outside the government — to challenge the Flo Balogun red card. Specifically they challenged the use of slow motion instant replay to give the red card, which they argued violated FIFA rules. The president also conveyed to Gianni Infantino, FIFA’s president, that the appeal had been filed and he believed the red card penalty was excessive. FIFA’s independent committee reviewed the decision and agreed the penalty was incorrectly given, rescinding it under their rule 27 authority.

Recently, FIFA suspended Nepal’s football federation over government interference. Several federations have faced sanctions for the same reason. Now we learn the White House made a direct call to FIFA asking Infantino to review Balogun’s red card. FIFA insists the decision was handled by an independent disciplinary panel and could not be influenced externally. But how is a direct call from a government to FIFA over a player’s suspension not, at the very least, political interference?

A U.S. official tells me about POTUS call to Infantino on Wednesday about Balogun’s suspension: “The President and Infantino did speak, and the President wanted to better understand the reason why a red card was given and why there was a suspension. The appeal process is run by an independent board. The U.S. government provided additional evidence that was used in the appeal process.” Ultimately the correct and proper outcome was achieved.

All I’ll say is if this was AFCON and they let a man play after he got a red card, the nonsense being said would be crazy

Just to be clear, then. FIFA: 1) can't possibly intervene when Iran are forced to move, a referee is denied a visa, or fans are barred from the USA 2) can absolutely intervene when a decision goes against the USA that Donald Trump doesn't like Smashing. All know where we stand

Is Macron going to call Trump now so Trump can call Infantino, and then Infantino can ask an independent committee to review France’s decisions too? Just trying to understand the new protocol.
@franceinfo

An absolute lack of transparency here.
🚹 Exclusive: The White House made a direct call to FIFA to ask Gianni Infantino to review Folarin Balogun’s red card. FIFA approached for comment and referred to the findings of its independent committee. FIFA sources insist White House influence could not affect the decision due to the powers contained in Article 27 and the independent nature of the disciplinary panel.

1/9🚹Transparency isn’t just good governance—it protects the integrity of the game. FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee did not overturn Balogun’s red card. It suspended the suspension under Article 27 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code, making him eligible to play. The issue isn’t

Soufiane Rahimi scoring just to top it all off! That might not have been Morocco’s best game, which says a lot when they still win 3-0. Onto the quarter-finals!
