Jordan Henderson getting both a booking and a tournament-ending injury while celebrating without playing a single minute.

Neymar laughing and celebrating scoring that pen as Brazil were blatantly being eliminated was a lovely touch. A stain on Ancelotti's career that he allowed himself to be cowed into taking him to this tournament. And you'll scarcely watch a worse team off the ball.

Just to be clear, then. FIFA: 1) can't possibly intervene when Iran are forced to move, a referee is denied a visa, or fans are barred from the USA 2) can absolutely intervene when a decision goes against the USA that Donald Trump doesn't like Smashing. All know where we stand

It’s incredible that over 50 players at this World Cup are from the Paris area. If only someone had made a BBC documentary about it…. They have! It was a great experience talking to players, coaches & historians about the magic on Paris’s streets. 👇 bbc.co.uk/programmes/w3ct6cd…

Here at @_Dan_Austin looks at what makes The Azteca Special. Sampled it for the first time when it was empty last night. It was breathtaking then so you can only imagine what tonight will be like. bbc.com/sport/football/artic…

Absolutely spitting feathers here over them actively teasing what could have been an all-time great final lap. If it has to end then fine, but a farce to show the safety car ending message before making the world sit and watch it trundle to the flag instead.

"There is just something very special about Azteca," recalled Pele. "You need to be inside it, to feel it, to understand." This is where the colour, noise and energy of football truly come to life. Enter the Azteca - where football kings are crowned 👇 bbc.co.uk/sport/football/art…

The one thing this tournament was lacking - which all proper, heritage World Cups must include - was a complete and utter maniac of a referee, and my word did that feller change that. Unless he'd put his wife and kids on under 0.5 Paraguay cards I'll never understand it.

There really should be some sort of mechanism to throw the wretched Belgium out and give the people's princes Cape Verde their place instead. Infantino forgiven for all his ills if he makes it happen before the next round.

Cape Verde were marvellous and what a wonderful thing that their team will be remembered forever. The dead, horrified silence in the ground both times they scored was incredible - like all the Argentinians in there had witnessed a brutal murder. What a thing football is.

There has never been a worse pair of decisions in football history than bringing on a tiny goalkeeper and then putting a teenage centre-half on a crucial penalty in a World Cup knockout game. Insane from Australia.

Coward if you're not still taking advantage and going the pub until 5am anyway.
England's World Cup last-16 tie with Mexico is set to be moved to 19:00 BST on Sunday. Fifa is understood to be bringing forward the game at Azteca, Mexico City, which had been scheduled to kick off at 01:00 BST on Monday (18:00 local time on Sunday). Forecasts suggest there could be thunderstorms and heavy rain around this time, although Fifa has not yet provided any explanation.

That feller waving his own personal yellow card he's brought to the match is really into something. Imagine an entire away end doing that in the league. Be brilliant.

Think if I supported Croatia I'd simply leave the house, start running in any direction, and never ever stop.

The Azetca altitude is like nothing England have experienced before. - "You can't catch your breath" - "You have to change the way you play" - "You are going there to suffer" Players, coaches, and a medical expert told me exactly how hard it is 👇 bbc.co.uk/sport/football/art…

Poor old Miroslav Klose is going to have dropped to about 15th on the all-time list by the time this tournament is finished.

Diana Ross could shank a pen but could Nick Woltemade nail a banger like Chain Reaction? Levels to this game.

Most of those penalties were that bad that you could splice the Diana Ross effort from 1994 into the middle of the footage and it wouldn't look out of place.

If Ancelotti's 'no tactics, not much running, just vibes' approach can go on to win a World Cup as well as five European Cups then everybody who works in serious football analysis should be banned from the game the world over.
Really enjoying this game because Japan are among the most tactically and physically switched on international sides I can recall watching, while Brazil without the ball look like a gang of middle-aged HR officers playing five-a-side at the Pitz the week after New Year.
