How might humanity send a mission to explore or even deflect a potentially hazardous object (PHO)?
A PHO is a celestial body, usually an asteroid, which regularly intersects Earth’s orbit and, depending on size, has the potential to cause a few minor casualties (such as Chelyabinsk), or can even erase entire species (such as Chicxulub which wiped out the dinosaurs).
Speakers: Adam Hibberd and Marshall Eubanks
Adam Hibberd is the principal astrodynamicist behind Project Lyra (the investigation of missions to catch the interstellar object ‘Oumuamua), and who is also creator of ‘Optimum Interplanetary Trajectory Software’. He is joined by the talented and passionate scientist, with a prestigious history in the space sector, Marshall Eubanks, owner of Space Initiatives Inc., to present a talk concerning their recent research into a mission to the infamous PHO designated 2024 YR4.
