$GLD doesn't trend. It coils.
From 2016 to 2020 it went essentially sideways for roughly 3,000 days. Then it exploded.
Then sideways for another 1,300 days. Then another massive move to $5,600.
This is the pattern. Long periods of compression followed by violent upside moves, then a significant correction before the next coil begins.
After a move like January's, a 50 to 60% retracement is not unusual. That puts a floor somewhere around $2,500 to $3,500.
Gold is not a trading asset. It's a spring.
The money is made by those who hold through the compression and don't panic during the retracement.

Short calls help.
They don’t save a bad long thesis.
For the tech names, I’m still relatively optimistic. Some only need the underlying to recover by around 10% to get back near breakeven.
BX and GLD are different. Holding on there was probably a mistake.
