A subsequent 1,3-rearrangement establishes a plausible biosynthetic relationship between notopterol and notoptol while representing the first application of the BTHL catalytic system to non-Brassard diene substrates. Beyond its synthetic innovation, biological evaluation identified (−)-notopterol and (−)-3 as potent, configuration-dependent antihypoxic neuroinflammatory agents, underscoring the value of asymmetric synthesis in enabling the discovery of new bioactive molecules.
