A Kenyan truck driver was killed in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), shortly after a video surfaced showing a FARDC soldier threatening to shoot drivers he said “looked like Tutsi.” According to the Njuguna family from Malava, Busia County, as reported by Citizen TV, they last spoke to him on April 3, 2026, before communication was lost. He had informed his brother in Mombasa that he was facing vehicle problems after his truck broke down in the city of Bunia, Ituri Province. In that final conversation, the deceased described the area as highly insecure and expressed fear for his life. Fearing he could be killed by armed criminals, the driver had asked DRC soldiers for protection. Instead, he was reportedly robbed of his money and left where he was. A few days later, Kenyan drivers who arrived in Bunia found Njuguna’s body decomposing on the roadside.
