Fascinating that some people are upset by @NYCMayor speech. They prefer fantasy instead of truth and facts.

“How small they are. How weak. How unoriginal… division is the oldest trick in politics.” Zohran rings in America’s birthday by reminding us our story is one of welcoming immigrants, not excluding everyone who doesn’t look like us. 🇺🇸

Kayleigh on Mamdani Speech: We need more Fettermans and fewer Mamdanis. It makes me angry. It makes me angry to see someone who took advantage of the American dream—Mamdani and his family came to this country and he is mayor of the greatest city in this country. We have the statue of liberty right behind us. They are failing to understand liberty.

ICE detain mother holding U.S. citizen daughter—force her to decide about family separation. Agents refuse to allow her to call the father to come and get the young girl. Force her to either abandon daughter and leave her alone on sidewalk—or be detained by ICE along with her. Mother and daughter are then ordered into an unmarked truck and taken away. The incident occurred in Houston, Texas. Man filming promised to try and contact the father—to tell him where his family disappeared to. He doesn't have an account on this platform—so posting first full length and credited video here to help raise awareness.

More than one third of U.S. adults believe violence is needed to get the country back on track, according to a new PBS News/NPR/Marist poll. Thirty-seven percent of adults believe that Americans may have to resort to violence to get the country back on track. That includes 12% who say they strongly agree with that statement. When Marist asked this question in October, 30% believed that violence may be necessary to course-correct the country. Lee Miringoff, director of the Marist Institute for Public Opinion, said the finding reflects the view that "the normal functioning of our government is not moving things quickly, or even in a way that's beneficial to innovation." This is a view held by some on the left and some on the right, he added. Thirty-three percent of Democrats, 40% of Republicans and 35% of independents say Americans may have to use violence to get the country back on track, the poll found. Beverly Gage, a Yale University historian, said there's historical precedent for that fervor for violence. It's been there from the nation's beginning. What makes the current moment distinct, Gage said, is the "seeming popularity or resignation to the idea that violence might become necessary." A country’s vitality is deeply tied to the value it affords to human life in every form and condition, acknowledging the dignity endowed upon every human person by virtue of their very existence. The moral greatness of a nation is manifested, above all, in its capacity to support, protect and cherish the lives of all, especially the most vulnerable and those whose worth is questioned.

I like fireworks, but celebration doesn’t help. Neither does despair. We must note what is damaged and being broken—and then get busy fixing it. That’s what I want the Fourth of July to be about, this and every year. I wrote about that for @GuardianUS. theguardian.com/commentisfre…

Every American should be outraged by what Trump has done to our nation's 250th birthday celebration. What should have been a once-in-a-generation moment to unite the country has been turned into another vehicle for division, propaganda, and political gain. We uncovered how he hijacked America 250 – watch to see how.
