1/ Small personal update: at the end of December, my “tour of duty” role in the UK Government came to an end. What was meant to be three fairly pedestrian months turned into nine fairly wild ones. A quick 🧵reflecting on my experiences 👇

When I started my PhD in AI x Bio many years ago it would be unimaginable that (i) there would be such a well regarded and well compensated role in central government, (ii) that there would be an AI minister and (iii) that the minister would personally promote the role Apply!

So Anthropic is doing drug design, and my feed is now full of jaded bio folks declaring what a terrible idea this is. "Drug design is hard" / "don't compete with your customers" / "if they were serious they'd be acquiring Cradle, Boltz" / etc I disagree I am SO EXCITED. 1/2

but the truth is that many civil servants themselves agree, even if they wouldnt phrase it like that Talented people don't want to work in sclerotic, process-obsessed, can't do cultures where poor performance goes unchecked & high performance unrecognised

Incredible that an AI neolab which only came out of stealth this year (with founders relocating from MIT to London) has already struck significant deals with major pharma companies. Congrats to @boltz_bio team!
