Through a process of internal cognition, small mouth noises, and vibrations in the air causing vibrations in the eardrum of another human, we can actually cause the thoughts we think in our minds to appear similarly in the mind of another. But because we’re all speaking the same language and using the same words, normal people tend to think a manipulator is using language in the same way they are. Abusive interpersonal relationships are always rife with verbal manipulation, because language is a powerful tool for both bending someone to your will and for dissuading them from leaving. A skillful manipulator can have their partner bending over backwards to accommodate their every desire and tolerating every kind of unfair treatment without ever even raising a hand to them. If you see all the world’s resources moving from the global south to the global north, that tells you all you need to know about what’s really going on, regardless of all the narrative spin the propagandists try to put on it. If you see Israel constantly inflicting genocide, ethnic cleansing, apartheid and abuse on people, then that tells you all you need to know about its true nature, regardless of the mountains of verbiage the hasbarists may try to throw at you. If you see millionaires becoming billionaires and trillionaires while working people have to toil harder and harder to pay their bills, then that tells you all you need to know about the systems we live under, regardless of how many spinmeisters tell you that capitalism is working out great. This is properly insane: quite literally the worst example of censorship I've ever heard of anywhere. I checked the actual ruling (which you can see here: courthousenews.com/wp-conten…) and, to be clear, it isn't just censorship in the conventional sense - blocking access to a website or removing content from platforms - this is the criminalization of information relayed by private citizens, with prison sentences attached. And the most insane aspect if that it does NOT matter if the information relayed is accurate or not. It just matters that it originates from RT or other media outlets banned in the EU. In other words, truth isn't a defense anymore in the EU, it literally doesn't matter. It's purely based on the identity of the speaker. The ruling is actually explicit about this: the regulation, quoted by the Court says that the prohibition applies to "any content," and they draw no distinction based on what the content actually says. If it originates from banned outlets, it's banned. It is, quite simply, a complete unraveling of the entire post-Enlightenment legal and philosophical project where entire generations of Europeans fought to move from "who says it" to "is it true" as the operative question. Think about the absurdity of it: if RT publishes a video saying the sky is blue and you share it on a publicly accessible website in the EU, you'd fall within the scope of this ruling, making you liable to criminal prosecution. So they make up fake threats from dictators and tyrants and take action to stop them. Can't stop inflating the military budget and circling the planet with more and more war machinery or the military-industrial complex will stop reaping profits. So they tell you to be afraid of Muslims and "terrorists" and Russia and China and take action to protect you from them. Can't stop polluting the world and destroying the biosphere or capitalism will perish. So they split us into two mainstream warring factions arguing about culture war wedge issues and promise to protect each faction from the other side. Can't stop supporting Israeli atrocities or they'll hamstring their hegemonic agendas in west Asia and make an enemy of the Zionists. So they make a boogie man out of "antisemitism" and set up envoys, inquiries and task forces dedicated to stopping it. Can't get money out of politics and stop wealthy oligarchs from using their riches to manipulate western politics to their advantage, because the oligarchs run the empire. So they fearmonger about "communism" on the right and tell the centrists that the leftists are costing them elections. Can't stop ramping up authoritarianism and eroding the civil liberties of the citizenry or else they won't be able to suppress future revolutions. So they cite unpopular people and groups as reasons why the authoritarianism is necessary to protect the public while constructing a giant cage of surveillance and control around everyone. Can't stop coercively extracting resources and labor from the global south because that's the whole reason the empire was set up in the first place. So they tell everyone the immigrants are the source of all their problems and make western politics revolve around immigration policy. The empire managers make up fake problems to solve because the empire is the source of all the real problems. They make up fake monsters to protect us from because they themselves are the real monsters. They make up imaginary ghouls and goblins lurking around every corner because they don't want us looking up and seeing the real bastards who are poisoning our world.
