Sorry, I hate stuff like this. Ketanji Brown Jackson isn't supposed to be "the people's champion." She's not a politician. She's supposed to *interpret* the law, not make it. This kind of thing is why so many people misunderstand how our government works at a basic level.
Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson graces the cover of ESSENCE.

I’m admittedly new to watching soccer, but I’ve been amazed by the role penalties play. Half the sport seems to involve Oscar-worthy performances to fool the referee, followed by miraculous recoveries seconds later. And then you have stuff like this. It’s hard to take seriously.
Folarin Balogun will be available to play the USMNT’s round of 16 match against Belgium, with his one-game red-card ban that he received against Bosnia and Herzegovina suspended. Article 27 of FIFA’s disciplinary code states that “the judicial body may decide to fully or partially suspend the implementation of a disciplinary measure.” nyti.ms/3RkeoH5

I’m happy Balogun can play again, go USA, but I’ve never watched a sport where winning appears to depend this heavily on exploiting technicalities, and where the rules are enforced so haphazardly that it looks like they’re making them up as they go

You don’t have to think America is perfect to see how lucky we are. We can criticize the state without fearing prison. We have the freedom to be individuals. And it’s possible to start from nothing and build an extraordinary life. We won the geographic lottery. HBD, America. 🇺🇸

America is one of the youngest countries on Earth and yet we have the oldest active Constitution. There will always be work to do. But it’s amazing to think how those Founding ideals have stood the test of time and how they’ve made us the envy of the world.

If we’re talking about space exploration records, why is Artemis there and not Katy Perry and Gayle King?

This vision of America is at odds with reality. The U.S. is the land of opportunity. It's why millions of people are clawing to get in. We don't have a fixed pie, and we have civil liberties that make us exceptional. You can want to improve things while still celebrating that.
JUST IN: NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani used America’s 250th anniversary to sharply criticize the country, accusing the U.S. of allowing children to go hungry while billionaires and “oligarchs” gain more power. He said America’s wealth was built by working people with “calloused, dirt-streaked hands" while accusing the country of allowing the wealth built by workers to be concentrated in “the soft hands of a precious few.”

Why is it ‘cancelled’ in the U.K. but ‘canceled’ in the U.S.? Because we gave them that L in 1776.

It is so incredibly rich that this administration has emphasized the horrors of socialism while seeking stakes in a bunch of private companies. You can't reconcile that.
OpenAI has begun discussions about giving the US government a 5% stake in the ChatGPT-developer, the Financial Times reports, citing two people familiar with the talks bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

So many dumb people in the comments: “But the grid!!” Yeah, this is why we need to build nuclear power plants, so that we can cleanly and efficiently power the grid!
A great thing about America is that we can set our thermostats to 65 degrees while Europeans bake without air conditioning. We shouldn't have to worry about politicians begging people to suffer in their homes during heat waves. We're way too rich & advanced a country for that.

New York: it's hot out there, and the power grid is working overtime to keep us cool. Set your AC to 78 degrees, turn off lights/electronics you're not using, and unplug what you can. Our City is doing its part too: maintaining the 78 degrees rule in our buildings, dimming/turning off our lights during peak electricity demand, asking private partners to do the same, and powering down non-essential equipment. A stable grid means the AC stays on, and lives are saved. Let's ease demand — and get through the heat — together.

Only 20% of European households have A/C. Opposition to air conditioning is a legit political position there, and it's embarrassing. Instead of asking millions of Americans to sweat in their homes, we should build a *lot* more power generation. That's what civilized countries do.

Matt Walsh's live reaction to SCOTUS upholding a 100 year old interpretation of the 14th amendment

I at least got to live for 40 years in a country that looks and functions something like America. The fact that my children are having that opportunity stolen from them fills me with rage so deep I can’t describe it. I truly hate the people who have done this to us.

As the Chief Justice points out, Alito's dissent is so badly written that it is completely self-contradictory.
Alito's dissent gives the game away: "This Court adopts a rule that even England abandoned" Yeah. England changed the ancient common law rule by passing a law. Not by asking their courts to rewrite history.

Honestly the decision reaffirming what makes America great is the best way to commemorate 250 years
The silliest objection to birthright citizenship is that “many other countries don’t have it.” OK? America is better. I thought the right agreed with that. We have it because the U.S. is exceptional. Next!

The second Trump term has been a neverending chorus of "well, why should America be exceptional?" and it's bleak and grating.

This also applies to tariffs. "But other countries use tariffs!" Yeah, so? They're lame. We're America. We're awesome. Why would we want to be like them and impose those costs on our own citizens?

I have said literally exactly this to people in real life. Every single time they short-circuit, because this argument is based solely on their stereotype that only far-left progressives support high levels of immigration. They’ve never argued with or considered the arguments of economic conservatives. It’s pretty funny to watch.
