Who funds the venture funds behind the breakout companies? @dealroomco’s latest analysis is a useful reminder that venture outcomes are shaped long before a company becomes a household name. The capital base behind the world’s best-performing venture funds is highly concentrated — led by pension funds, fund-of-funds, endowments, and foundations that have built access to the managers producing outlier outcomes. We’re proud to see Vintage ranked #11 on the top 20 LPs globally, and as one of only two non-US institutions on the list. But the bigger point is structural: in venture, access matters. The power law applies not only to companies, but also to funds, managers, and the LPs able to identify and access them over multiple cycles.
