Happy Fourth of July from the Redmond Police Department! We wish everyone a fun, safe, and happy Independence Day with family and friends. It's a safer way to celebrate for your family, your neighbors, and our community. If you see the use of illegal fireworks in Redmond, please report it to our non-emergency line at 425-556-2500. 🚨 A split second can change everything. On June 24 at approximately 12:25 p.m., a vehicle traveling eastbound on Cleveland Street turned right onto Redmond Way, colliding with a vehicle traveling southeast on Redmond Way. The impact caused one of the vehicles to jump the sidewalk and crash into a fence. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported, but this crash is a powerful reminder that distracted or inattentive driving can have serious consequences. Due to an increase in collisions along Redmond Way, Redmond Police officers are conducting emphasis patrols focused on speeding and distracted driving in the area as part of King County Target Zero Coalition 100 Safe Days of Summer campaign. The Redmond Police Department is proud to participate in this regional traffic safety effort, which runs through Labor Day and encourages everyone to make safe choices behind the wheel during one of the busiest travel seasons of the year. Please slow down, stay focused, and put your phone away while driving. A few extra seconds of patience can prevent a lifetime of regret. Help us spread the message by sharing this post. Together, we can make our roads safer for everyone. Case #26-018097

Scam Alert: Fraudsters Impersonating Health Insurance Providers The Redmond Police Department is warning the community about a sophisticated scam that has recently targeted Chinese women, resulting in significant financial losses. Here's how the scam works: ☎️Victims receive a phone call from someone claiming to represent United Healthcare, who says there is a problem with their insurance plan or that their personal information has been compromised. 💻The victim is then transferred to another individual, often speaking Chinese, who contacts them over Zoom while dressed as a police officer. 📄The scammer convinces the victim to provide photos of personal identification and then falsely claims there is a warrant for their arrest. 💰The victim is told the warrant can be "cleared" by wiring money to a bank account in China. Once the money is sent, it is often unrecoverable. Redmond Police have investigated two cases involving this scam. In one case, a victim lost $80,000. In another case, a victim was preparing to send $100,000 before recognizing it was a scam. Remember: • Law enforcement will never ask you to wire money to avoid arrest or resolve a warrant. • Government agencies and legitimate businesses will never demand immediate payment through wire transfers. • Never share personal identifying information with someone you do not know over the phone or on a video call. • If you receive a suspicious call, hang up and contact the organization directly using a verified phone number. If you believe you have been targeted by this scam: • Contact your bank immediately to request a wire recall. Time is critical. • Report the incident to your local law enforcement agency. • File a complaint with the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) at ic3.gov. Please share this post to help protect your family, friends, and neighbors from becoming victims.

On June 22, at approximately 11:50 a.m., officers responded to a shoplifting call at Target in Redmond after a man was reported removing security tags and concealing merchandise in a stolen backpack. As soon as the 911 call came in, a Drone as First Responder (DFR) was launched and arrived on scene before officers on the ground. The DFR pilot quickly located the suspect leaving the store and maintained visuals as he fled to a nearby hotel, then boarded a bus at the park-and-ride. Throughout the incident, the drone provided real-time updates that helped responding officers locate the suspect and coordinate a safe apprehension. Officers coordinated with the bus driver and safely detained the suspect. The suspect reportedly stole approximately $330 in merchandise. Watch the video to see how drone technology helped officers locate, track, and safely apprehend the suspect.

🌞 Hot weather is here! As temperatures rise, take a few moments to check on neighbors, friends, and family members who may be more vulnerable to heat-related illness. Older adults, young children, and people with chronic health conditions are at greater risk. Encourage them to stay cool, limit time in the heat, and drink plenty of water throughout the day. 🚗 Never leave children or pets in a parked vehicle, even for a short time. Temperatures inside a car can reach dangerous and deadly levels within minutes. Make it a habit to check your back seat before locking your vehicle. For hot car safety tips, visit: nhtsa.gov/child-safety/you-c… Additional heat safety information is available at: redmond.gov/weather Stay safe and stay cool, Redmond! 💧

Temperatures Are Climbing - Look Before You Lock With temperatures expected to reach the 90s this weekend, it's important to remember that the inside of a vehicle can become dangerously hot in just minutes, even with the windows cracked. Children and pets are especially vulnerable to heat-related illnesses, which can quickly become life-threatening. Before you walk away from your vehicle: - Never leave pets unattended in a parked car. - Always check the back seat before locking your vehicle. - Take your keys and lock your car to prevent children from climbing inside unnoticed. - Place a purse, phone, or other essential item in the back seat as a reminder to check before exiting. - If you see a child or pet in distress inside a vehicle, call 911 immediately. This weekend's heat is a good reminder that there is no safe amount of time to leave a child or pet in a parked vehicle. Together, we can prevent tragedy and keep our community safe. Traffic Stop Leads to Warrant Arrest — and an Unexpected Food Delivery On June 4, just after 8:00 p.m., a Redmond officer observed a driver fail to stop at a stop sign near NE 40th St and 172nd Ave NE and conducted a traffic stop. During the stop, officers learned the driver did not have a license or proof of insurance on hand. A records check revealed the driver had an active warrant for Driving While License Suspended. The driver was taken into custody on the warrant and received warnings for the traffic violations. Officers also noticed bags of food in the vehicle and learned the driver was in the middle of making a food delivery. To make sure the customer still received their order, another officer completed the delivery. Sometimes police work means enforcing the law. Sometimes it means delivering dinner.
