I took Gilbert Strang’s course at MIT, and it profoundly shaped how I think. One fun memory: an acappella group stormed into class on Valentine’s Day to serenade a student, Prof Strang was thoroughly amused! @MIT_CSAIL
IN 1999 MIT FILMED A MATH LECTURE THAT QUIETLY BECAME THE FOUNDATION OF EVERY AI MODEL YOU'VE EVER USED AND ALMOST NO ONE WAS TAUGHT TO SEE IT THAT WAY 39 minutes from Gilbert Strang, who taught this at MIT for over 60 years -- the linear algebra course an entire generation of engineers and data scientists grew up on. -> The shift it creates: you stop seeing matrices as boring grids of numbers and start seeing them as the language of space, data, and motion itself. School drilled you to crunch matrices by hand and never told you why. Strang shows you what they actually mean. Every neural net, every embedding, every model you prompt is linear algebra running underneath. The math you skipped is the engine of the thing you use all day. Memorizing the steps was never the skill -> seeing what the numbers do is. This is where it finally clicks. Most people fear linear algebra and move on. The ones who watched this see straight into how AI actually works. Bookmark & Watch it today, this one's a legend ↓

This kind of mathematical foundation matters more than ever for PhD students. As AI makes it easier to generate results without fully understanding what lies beneath them, the researchers who pair deep mathematical intuition with AI fluency will shape the next era of science.

I also wonder what Michael (the student who got the surprise serenade) is up to now. He seemed pretty embarrassed at the time 😅 💘

Grateful that 2 of our papers got into #ECCV2026, but deeply disappointed that our third (with 2 positive scores) rejected due to an irresponsible reviewer who ghosted us and never acknowledged our rebuttal, yet AC called their factually incorrect concerns “unresolved.” @eccvconf

I remain confident in this work and believe it will find a home at another top venue. What hurts most is seeing a PhD student’s efforts dismissed by a process that did not meaningfully engage with their response.

Rejection is part of research; being ignored should not be. Experiences like this especially early in a PhD can damage trust in academia. We need a review process that is more accountable, transparent, and fair. Let’s do better! #ECCV2026 @eccvconf #CVPR #computervision

CVPR was a blast! Did anyone else develop a serious case of robotics FOMO? I came in excited about generative models and left emotionally vulnerable to robot arms 🤖 @CVPR #CVPR2026 #CVPR #Robotics
