Though dust obscures background stars and galaxies, in @NASAHubble’s image of FS Tau (right) we can see protostar FS Tau b, its dusty protoplanetary disk, and its jet of matter (colored cyan). Compare to the Webb image on the left!

For generations, NASA missions have transformed the unknown into the understood, with each discovery building upon the last. As America marks 250 years of progress, we're reflecting on another journey that spans generations: our quest to understand the universe we call home.

Brighten up! ☀️ NGC 6814, pictured here by Hubble, is classified as a "Seyfert" galaxy. That means its bright center is extremely active, and can emit strong bursts of radiation: go.nasa.gov/3RdXjyq

Though it has mainly looked for distant cosmic explosions, our Swift observatory has also studied solar system objects! In 2010, Swift teamed up with @NASAHubble to catch the remnants of an asteroid smash-up just weeks after the collision. go.nasa.gov/4wi8KE6

ALT This artist’s concept shows a smaller asteroid colliding with a larger one, producing plumes of material. The animation opens with the top portion of a large asteroid taking up the bottom of the image. The asteroid is in dark shades of gray and shows many small craters. As the camera zooms out to show more of the large asteroid, a blast of white light appears on its upper right side. Plumes of material emanate from that explosion, with some material streaming away from the asteroid and other material falling back onto its surface. The GIF is watermarked “Artist’s concept” and “Credit: NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center/Conceptual Image Lab.”

The Chandelier Cluster ✨🌟 Every "lightbulb" in this cosmic chandelier is actually an individual star, located about 27,000 light-years away. This is a globular star cluster, which means it's a tightly packed group of stars held together by gravity: go.nasa.gov/4f4OkIX

It's a little dusty over at MCG 08-11-002. This odd-looking galaxy sports a spectacular band of dark dust across its center, which is likely the aftermath of an earlier collision of two separate galaxies. Learn more: go.nasa.gov/4ev2jHT

Here on Earth, @VRubinObs just marked one year in operation! Rubin’s wider view shows the cosmic context of the nebula, stretching 56 light-years across, while this Hubble “close-up” view spans four light-years: showing how teamwork makes astronomy better (and beautiful)!
