An inspiring visit to the
@OsmaniTrust in Tower Hamlets with
@LibPeck, Director of
@LDN_VRU, to see first-hand the work being done to support young people and prevent violence through community-led intervention.
We heard directly from young people, staff, volunteers and partner organisations, including
@weare_spotlight and
@SoGrowth, about the importance of trusted relationships, safe spaces and positive opportunities in helping young people thrive.
What struck me most was the confidence, aspiration and sense of belonging evident among the young people we met. Effective violence reduction is built long before a crime is committed — through community, opportunity and hope.
My thanks to Harun Khan and the team at Osmani Trust for their warm welcome, and to Zakaria Hussain and colleagues from London’s Violence Reduction Unit for facilitating the visit and sharing their insights. It was also a pleasure to spend time with Lib Peck ahead of welcoming her as guest speaker at a forthcoming High Sheriff of Greater London event.
The office of High Sheriff has long supported those who uphold justice and public safety. Today, that also means championing the charities, youth workers, volunteers and community leaders helping to prevent young people from ever entering the criminal justice system.
