This week's #HS2InPictures takes us to Chipping Warden, where the final reinforced concrete segment was lifted into position for one of the longest 'cut and cover' tunnels on the project. πŸ“Έβ€¨ Once complete, over two million cubic metres of excavated material will be placed on top and carefully landscaped with trees and hedgerows to blend the railway into the Northamptonshire countryside. πŸŒΏβ€¨ Take a look below πŸ‘‡

The last of over 5,000 reinforced concrete segments has been lifted into position for the Chipping Warden 'green tunnel' - marking a major milestone for one of the longest 'cut and cover' tunnels on the project πŸ‘‡πŸŽ₯. Set to stretch for one-and-a-half miles, the tunnel is being built inside a cutting, with the earth put back on top afterwards, helping to blend the high-speed railway into the landscape and cut noise and disturbance for people living nearby. Engineers working on the River Avon viaduct near Stoneleigh Park in #Warwickshire have installed the final steel span over the river. This 140 metre structure is made up of four spans, which have been lifted into place using a 750 tonne crawler crane. The next step is to install the concrete deck, eventually allowing high-speed trains to travel over the River Avon and its flood plain.

Following the first weekend closure of the M42 motorway near #Solihull, engineers working on the twin box structure have successfully installed the first set of beams πŸ‘. The 23-metre-long beams were lifted into position using a 300-tonne crawler crane, effectively bridging the gap between the supporting walls and columns. In total, 175 prefabricated beams will be installed over the remaining three closure weekends in July, August and September. Find out more: ow.ly/MQ5Z50ZiEoV

This week we're sharing these shots of the first concrete beams being lifted into position at Birmingham Curzon Street station. πŸ“Έ Up to now, much of the construction at Curzon Street has been happening beneath the ground. Now more than 556 beams are being carefully lifted to form the deck that will eventually support seven high-speed platforms. When complete, Curzon Street will stretch 450 metres with an arched roof the size of London's St Pancras International.
Take a look at the beams going in below πŸ‘‡ #HS2InPictures

The construction of an enormous deck that will help support the platforms at #Birmingham's new #CurzonStreetStation has begun with the first of more than 556 concrete beams lifted into position. The horizontal beams are 34 metres long, and weigh as much as 58 tonnes. They will support seven platforms being built at the station. Find out more: gloo.to/FDyQ

This week we’d like to share these fantastic shots of the Colne Valley Western Slopes. πŸ“Έ Alongside the construction of Britain's new high-speed railway, we’re delivering one of the largest environmental programmes ever undertaken in the UK. Colne Valley will see 127 hectares of former agricultural land restored to wildlife-rich grassland. 🌿 Take a look at how the landscape is changing below πŸ‘‡ #HS2InPictures

#HS2 isn't just a new railway β€” it's a gateway to Britain's wider transport network.πŸš† At Old Oak Common, passengers will step off HS2 and straight onto the Elizabeth line. In Birmingham, Curzon Street will link to the tram network, while Interchange station will sit right next to Birmingham Airport.✈️ HS2 will play a key role in Britain's modern, integrated rail network β€” connecting people and places across the country. See the full map of connections below.πŸ‘‡ #HS2 #BetterTransportWeek

HS2 engineers are ready to start installing the roof beams on a new box structure that will span both carriageways of the M42 near Solihull. πŸ—οΈ This summer, 175 roof beams weighing up to 92 tonnes will be lifted into place, resting on 10-metre-high supporting walls. To install the first beams, the M42 will be closed from 9pm Friday 26 June to 5am Monday 29 June J5A to J7 (northbound) and J6 to J7 (southbound). New Timelapse footage πŸŽ₯ Watch our teams demolish the 105m Aston Church Road overbridge and the 225m Saltley viaduct. Every stage was planned in close coordination with Network Rail to minimise impact on passengers and freight. Using excavators fitted with specialist attachments, the team crushed concrete and brick on site, and lifted out heavy steel beams from the Saltley deck before cutting them into manageable sections. Demolition work continues in stages on both sites. At Saltley, a new structure – built two metres taller to accommodate the high-speed railway below – will be fabricated on site and driven into position.

This week we’d like to share these pictures of the Curzon 2 viaduct successfully being launched over the Birmingham Cross City line. πŸ“Έ The viaduct was pushed over twin railway tracks – a distance of 93 metres over a weekend rail closure. Following the final 37-metre push the structure is now docked and securely locked into position on all four piers. Watch more on the Curzon 2 push here: youtu.be/4Luukv1zZ5g #HS2InPictures

Our fleet of Articulated Dump Trucks (ADTs) are now crossing the Small Dean ViaductπŸ‘‡πŸŽ₯. They are moving materials between compounds, replacing the conveyor belt system that previously spanned the A413 and Chilterns Railway line below. The crossing is managed by a traffic light system, with one ADT passing at a time and physical barriers in place to protect the road and railway underneath from rubble and dust. Decommissioning the conveyor belt and returning to traditional haulage methods is helping the team work efficiently. #HighSpeedTwo #Infrastructure #Construction

Two 24m steel footbridge decks were successfully and safely delivered to our site near Aylesbury, marking a key progress milestone for the project. Transported during 15-minute rolling road closures to minimise disruption, the complex operation was moved meticulously through #Aylesbury town centre. This is a testament to the hard work and collaboration of a skilled team which included our traffic management team, who helped keep everything running smoothly on the ground.

This summer, our teams are preparing to deliver the biggest programme of work over the motorway network. The construction schedule, which starts in June, will see three huge HS2 structures built over busy sections of the M42 and #M6 in the #WestMidlands. In one operation, a twin box will be built above both carriageways of the #M42 near #Birmingham Business Park – allowing the railway to be constructed over the top. Additionally, two single-track viaducts will be extended over the M42/M6 Toll near Water Orton, and a twin-track viaduct will be installed over the M6 near Chelmsley Wood.
