Jose Aldo is humble and down to earth. We met, doing PR for a card that we were both on. Despite a language barrier, I knew he was one of the real ones. I offered to help him train in Brazil for his fights. He proved to be even more than what I expected. Legend 🫡

Videogames aren't art. Art is paintings. Only one videogame approaches art: Mario Paint.

one of the things I'd like to see coming out of this is some good old fashioned camp bullshit. the people around the washed/bad fighter talking about how incredible they're looking (James Toney tapped King Mo with a guillotine!) is kind of a lost art imo.
Conor McGregor believes he’s fresher than most fighters his age because of his inactivity: “I feel a lot more fresher than these opponents. I’ve had my time of rest, I feel I’m coming into my prime now.” 👀 (via @UFConParamount)

This applies to sumo too. It's like 95% ritual. To back up Phil's point, you can find people 2 millennia ago like Cicero complaining about the arena/Colosseum games being boring. Midday executions were notoriously boring and treated as an opportunity for a piss break.

it rules when people make up fake criticisms, like when zoomers pretend that people didn't like the phantom menace because it was "too political". is this film by the most famously terrible hack of the 21st century just... too unsubtle? too militant? 🤔🤔🤔
Some people, even in nationalist circles, say that "Citizen Vigilante" should be more subtle and smart, less overtly militant. Have you seen the movie "One Battle After Another" with Leonardo Di Caprio? It’s a film that glorifies far-left terrorism. An anti-conservative diatribe that calls for violence against us. What Uwe Boll lacks isn’t subtlety: it’s a 100 million budget and good script doctors. One day, a right-wing director will certainly make a film that is artistically more accomplished than “Citizen Vigilante.”, ok. But now, only Uwe had the courage to take the first step toward making militant works that openly embrace nationalism.

just accept that your sport is mostly tedious with brief moments of excitement (like every other sport) and that you like it because your friends or family do (or because you're a freak), you're not a better person for watching it.

people love gassing up "their" sport by saying that it's more exciting or more difficult or whatever but it's always cope.

soccer is trying to cross into the box and failing to score, american football is 80% nothing happening, basketball is teams taking it in turns to shoot 3s, baseball and cricket are baseball and cricket.

"X sport is boring" - almost always correct "X sport is more boring than Y sport and this is why it won't catch on" - almost always incorrect, every popular sport is boring

these takes pop up all the time and they never make sense. people don't watch any sports anywhere because they are exciting or manly or badass or whatever. if excitement was the driving factor then Knight Fights and Slamball would be the most popular sports in the world.
Okay, since you asked, here’s my American opinion. Soccer will never be as popular in America as football for 3 reasons: 1. The Fake Injuries Players are incentivized to flop because the other team is more likely to get a penalty. In football, it is the opposite. If a player has a real injury, play toughs it out and plays through it, it is seen as heroic. Americans like toughness and grit. 2. Chance Goals Many goals are scored by chance as opposed to skill. The chaos at the net when the ball is near is remarkable. Defenders blocking the goalie’s line of sight. The ball bouncing and ricocheting off of random body parts often determines if the ball goes in the net or out of bounds. In football, there are some elements of chance, but because players are allowed to use their hands, the points are primarily scored based on skill. Less is left to chance. Americans like control. 3. Low Scoring In football, it is still challenging to score, but it happens much more often. Also, every play has a chance for gratification and excitement: a first down, a big catch, a big hit, a sack, an interception, etc American like constant excitement.

Vance resembles one of those characters in Dostoyevsky who has been humiliated by life in his youth & seeks out forever afterward circumstances that instead of elevating him will humiliate him again; his humiliation then frees the resentment, rage, spite he would otherwise suppress. even if he becomes the next US president, the prediction is the same cycle repeated endlessly.
BREAKING: In a humiliating moment, the leader of Qatar’s negotiating team just completely ignored JD Vance. These negotiations are going horribly and once again the Trump Administration is making the US the laughing stock of the world.

had resigned myself to a Kape win due to him seemingly having improved, but he mostly looked like warmed over dogshit en route to landing one big punch. He'd have exactly the same fight with Mokaev again.

One of the key jabbing applications Gaethje used to best Topuria was posting behind the dipping jab. Doing so let him avoid one of Topuria's favorite jab counters while letting him set up transitional attacks.
