Tattered papers; it's a miracle they haven't been discarded. This paper averaged ~600 pages a month. This particular pile only has a dozen left, yet contains precious accounts dating to the mid-1930's. Words that immensely enrich an already charming past of Burmese boxing.

The ultimate neurodivergent loop: needing alone time because your senses are fried, but desperately wanting company because you feel profoundly lonely. Both feelings happening simultaneously. Constantly.

I've not been able to catch as many games as I've wanted to but I'll remember that one. Superlatives don't encompass it.

This. My main issue as a retro gaming fan is that the hardware is dying and it's harder to find repairmen or replacements or do repairs yourself with each year. The amount of working consoles gets lower by the day.
The bigger issue is that everyone’s consoles have capacitors rated for 20 years or so. Look at your GameCubes. They are all failing.

cutting physical media cuts costs only for the company. they get to save on production, design, shipping and still charge the same thing with nothing being passed on to the consumer

Last year I wrote about this fight, which pitted two all time greats against each other. No footage is known to exist, so I relied on round-by-round newspaper reports. They’re such interesting reads, and I’ve compiled them into a free online pamphlet. Link below. 🔗

Edgar is clever with his diversity of striking setups (fold to left, go for shovel lead uppercut or jab feint w/ a shoulder feint, delayed 1-2) but what Aldo picked up again and again is that the entry comes straight down the center.

Sometimes, you'll see someone go for a counter "first" in anticipation of a strike. Edgar's idea is the overhand cross counter to the jab. The problem with doing so is as Aldo exemplifies here - a small pivot behind a jab to stay safe outpositions a linear entry.

A variation but this time Edgar's plan is to not commit to the counter and instead stay close and slip inside to catch Aldo as he resets w/ the right, even on the pivot. The thing is, slipping past the jab lets Aldo place his glove near Edgar's head to frame with the forearm.

It's funny watching Aldo-Edgar and Goldberg is saying Aldo's smiling because he's enjoying the challenge. And that's like, what challenge? Edgar has gotten no momentum at all.

There are many things I can say about this one but let’s start from the top: Did it take him 10 rounds to get a beat on how to do it? Yes. But, esp. in consideration of fight 2 and how Max remained one of the world’s best since 2015? It’s not a mark against Volk.
4 years ago, Volk put the Max Holloway rivalry to bed. Arguably, the worst beating Max has taken in a fight. People forget that Volk was being booed before this fight, and the fans were still not fully on board with him 🗣️

Second, there are fighter who’ve grounded Holloway. There are fighters who beat him toe-to-toe. But nobody else but Volkanovski can lay the insane claim to tame him over a 5rds on the feet and even did it without needing to fight at the pace he did in the first two fights.

The only things he couldn’t do were make Holloway go backwards or trade extensively in the pocket. But he made sure those things didn’t matter in proving he was the better head-to-head. A serious contender for performance of the decade and one of the best showings in history.
