One of Sony's biggest first party studios profile banner features PlayStation game discs. How ironic.

Both of these images show the exact moment a very successful gaming brand decided they can do whatever they want and their customers WILL accept it.

This is why I've been saying the push for digital ownership is going to take a long, long time to achieve. I'm encounteing PlayStation players who are saying this unironically.

The real fight is for proper digital ownership. Yes I can agree that needs to happen. But if there's anything I've learned this past week, its most of that fight will be against other gamers. A lot of digital only buyers actually like the idea of having 0 ownership/control.

To put in perspective how wide reaching this announcement from Sony is, their post about ending physical PlayStation games has surpassed GTA VI Trailer 1. They would be insane to ignore us.

Did they forget what happened with Helldivers 2? Did someone else just suddenly start making decisions over there with the intention of sabotaging the brand because this is getting weird. It's like they're trying to get everyone to turn on them.

I'm telling you, Sony will genuinely regret this if they go through with it. Customers have put up with a lot from Sony this generation but this crossed the line big time. Even if they force this through and GTA saves them for a short period, next-gen will be ultra cooked.

Andrew House was with Sony from 1990 to 2017 & played a big role with the original PlayStation. But more importantly he was part of the PS3 era and understood there was only one way to come back going into the PS4 era. I feel for the new suits, right now is their PS3moment.

Apparently Kojima doesn't explicitly mention Sony but says he's buying a lot of Blu rays and DVDs. But we know how Kojima really feels here. Of course we know. Sony said NO PHYSICAL DISC FOR PHYSINT.

Sony's post got instantly community noted again, this time with the real leaked data of their physical to digital split. (Ironically for most of their first party games) Incredible. Make sure you rate it as helpful. Let them know.

They removed the community note. They are fighting us on this. There is no competition to keep them in check right now. Fighting for digital ownership will take years. It may sound a bit dramatic but those of us who still want physical PlayStation games are the last line.

Just to show you how scummy Sony is being with this news. They anticipated their numbers would drop through people protesting/boycotting by canceling Ps Plus and pre-orders but they won't have to show their numbers to investors until the end of September. Their next earnings call is July 31st however it only covers up to June 30th. They planned this out perfectly to drop it on July 1st for this very reason. The numbers dip early July, they have over 2 months to watch them HOPEFULLY recover as the deperate gamers crawl back and the investors see that Sony moving away from physical games didn't hurt anything. Keep this is mind as we move forward. Sony is betting on you caving and crawling back to them in the coming weeks. Oh and so are the investors.

Sony wants to go digital only next-gen. But what about game sharing. A lot of people currently choose digital because of game sharing. Sony likely hasn't axed it out of fear they'll lose that digital buyer to physical/second hand market.

Like I told you guys. Sony believes they can and will strongarm you. In the face of the biggest push back since the Xbox DRM situation, what do they do. Stay silent, except to leave this little notice for anyone looking to buy their disc drive.
