"AI friends are dystopian" -- elites who have always been surrounded by interesting people to talk to. "VR is dystopian" -- elites who have always been surrounded by interesting things to see and do. Anti-pleb bias; no theory of mind. Many such cases.

well it's officially past Q2 2026 and @pickle was a massive scam that @thedowd and I extensively warned everyone about. congrats to all those who lost money and didn't listen. as if some SaaS try hard kid was better then Apple at making hardware.
As someone who worked in AR/VR for over a decade please listen. The @pickle glasses are not real. It’s literally just a mold of glasses made in China. The technology for AR glasses in this form factor isn’t possible yet. Not even Meta or Apple has glasses like this. 100% fake.

I remember pickle!
remember pickle? people on their discord want to file a class action lawsuit against them pickle might have single-handedly destroyed public trust in smart glasses launch videos (or maybe it has long been destroyed? lol)

We’ve received notice that the Department of Commerce has lifted export controls on Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5. We'll begin restoring access tomorrow, and will share an update soon. We’re grateful to our users for their patience, and to everyone who worked with us on redeploying the models.

No comment other than that Corgi's cold calling is one of the most infuriating things ever. "Would you throw your phone out of the window if I said this was a cold call from Corgi" Is their opening line.

It seems like every next wave of VR games is just a macro optimization of whatever became popular before it. Because most of these game studios only have Roblox to look to and copy from, the result is a continuously optimized, hyper-efficient, slop category of games and marketing like this. It's bringing us way further away from genuine social worlds and deeper into a confused Roblox copycat category of VR games. The worst part is that these games and their developers are so focused on making money in the short term that to them it appears to be working. VR is really suffering on the axes that matter: retention, cultural relevance, etc.

Just hosted a talent show in VR with ~130 folks in the audience. Multiple players singing, some playing guitar and piano over VoIP. Really wholesome experience that shows how expansive VR can be!

I'm quite confident in the youth-driven mass social rise of VR, but if I’m wrong, then VR could end up looking something more like this.

VR is obviously easier to imagine unique, platform-native software for and VR software still hasn’t been solved after 10 years. The only thing people propose for AR is applications you’d prefer to do on a phone, laptop, Apple Watch, AirPods, or VR headset. They are far from the predestined next platform.
the glasses will get smaller every generation, the software is the real story

Snapchat popularized possibly the most popular avatars (BitMoji) and chose to go with AR instead. Augmented Reality is fundamentally out of touch with the average person today.
