The sunscreen association in this study is confounded, not causal. Heavy users tend to already be at higher risk: they spend more time in the sun, or started using sunscreen after a skin cancer diagnosis. The authors are clear sunscreen still protects when used consistently.
The LARGEST sunscreen-skin cancer study in HISTORY (n=470,000) found sunscreen users are FAR MORE likely to develop EVERY major form of skin cancer. INVASIVE MELANOMA: 📈 292% MELANOMA IN SITU: 📈 258% BASAL CELL CARCINOMA: 📈 140% SQUAMOUS CELL CARCINOMA: 📈 126% 27% of sunscreens are laced with BENZENE, a known carcinogen. Benzene was detected in products from major brands including Neutrogena, Banana Boat, Sun Bum, CVS Health, EltaMD, Raw Elements, TopCare Everyday, Goodsense, SunBurnt, and Fruit of the Earth.

To claim as fact that these drugs curb desire, we need randomized trials built to measure this directly, the way we now have them for alcohol. Thus far, we have a plausible mechanism, a lot of stories, but no verdict.

After examining clinical evidence, the mechanism, and anecdotal data, the answer to "do GLP-1s kill desire" is complicated. The strongest evidence is anecdotal data, which is useful, but it is not proof.

A 2025 Kinsey Institute survey of 2,000 adults found that the results depend on how you lose weight. Dropping pounds too fast tends to crush your libido. Losing weight at a slow, healthy pace usually improves it.

Anecdotal data from thousands of patients shows that these drugs curb all kinds of cravings and their desire for romance, sex, ambition, and more. For sex specifically:

There is an equally good case that they increase desire. Losing weight often boosts testosterone, energy, and self-confidence. When you sleep better and have more energy, your libido can easily go up. This can't settle our question so let's look at what people report instead.

We can make a strong case that these drugs dampen desire. They lower dopamine, which is what makes us want things. They can also flatten mood and cause nausea early on, but the caveat is, a hungry person rarely wants anything. On the flip side:

Since studies are sparse, we have to look at the mechanism in order to explain the "loss of desire." GLP-1 receptors exist way beyond the gut. They are in the brainstem, the hypothalamus, and the reward system. That involves dopamine, which directly drives what we want.

A 2025 paper by Tveit and colleagues suggests that GLP-1s might increase serotonin activity at the 5-HT2C receptor. That is the same mechanism that causes sexual side effects in antidepressants. It makes sense, but it is just a theory.

The evidence on libido and sexual desire is thin. Almost every study looks at physical performance, erections, or testosterone levels, but almost none measure actual desire. No trial has looked at whether GLP-1s change desire. The best lead comes from 2025 paper.

But wanting fewer drinks or less food is different from losing desire. People report the loss of desire for anything, specifically romantic and sexual desire. But is this grounded in science? Let's examine the data.

Randomized trials came out in JAMA Psychiatry in 2025 and from Copenhagen in 2026 showing less heavy drinking in patients on GLP-1s.

It's a well-known fact that GLP-1s lower the appetite for food and alcohol. Both run on the same reward circuit, so when you calm it, they lose their grip at once. The food effect is well established. And on alcohol, we now have evidence to back it up:

There is a lot of speculation in the online discourse on GLP-1s dampening desire, specifically our desire for intimacy. To find an answer, we'll look at this in three parts: the studies, the mechanism, and the anecdotal data. Start with the studies.

GLP-1s blunt cravings, but they may blunt romantic and sexual desire too. Users report losing libido and even falling out of love. How GLP-1s can change your sex life, explained with science: (1/14)

Superpower reposted
We just shipped the new Superpower data page. It looks like a small UI update, but this is 10x leap in translating complex data into actionable insights. It gives you an overview of all your biomarkers: notable shifts, things that are optimal, what requires your attention, and most importantly, what to do about them. You get this at every level now. The main page summarizes everything across all your categories. Then each category has its own summary page, so you can open just one area, like your Organic Acids test and have clarity on everything. And we're adding a lot more: vaginal microbiome, DEXA and bone scans, genomics. That's hundreds of new biomarkers. On the old page it would just be a wall of data. On top of this, every single insight is generated on demand, for every member and updated any time their test updates. With Superpower, your health data finally makes sense. Proud of the team!
