Joburg is not collapsing because of coalitions or single party mayorship as it was with the ANC . The crisis of JHB is the crisis of how SA came to be as a country. JHB being the hub of economic activity and almost everyone being migrant laborers with controlled access via pass laws. Post-1994, those laws have been abolished, with our former bantustans largely underdeveloped. It's only logical everyone will want to go seek opportunities in the city. So what happens to social services? impossible. It is a "special" city. The only city in SA that cannot be fixed without fixing the economic organization in the country. Decentralize the economy from Gauteng, and you will fix Johannesburg. No mayor will fix Joburg without fixing the whole country. It's just imposible.
My concern is that Joburg cannot survive another coalition. Eleven mayors in 10 yrs is the reason this city is falling off the bone

Black South Africans have every reason to be outraged. The democratic government has failed to deliver economic justice or shift the deeply entrenched colonial power relations. African migrants are also casualties of a broader continental crisis of neo-colonialism, poor governance, underdevelopment, and inequality. The solution to Africa's migration challenge can never lie in a group of marginalised people turning on another group of marginalised people. Rather, it lies in building strong, secure African nations, focused on accountability, people-driven development and sovereignty. iol.co.za/pretoria-news/opin…

Workers are dismissing illegal foreigners, without following any laws! I wonder why did the ANC government allow this nonsense for this long!

The root cause of South Africa’s immigration issues is not poor border management – it’s the country’s silence on authoritarianism. In abdicating its regional role, it has enabled autocracy. Tap the 🔗 for details from @hartleyr and Greg Mills. currencynews.co.za/the-gorgi…

In 2014 studies showed that migrant chances of finding jobs in the informal sector far surpassed those of SAns. The research said this was an "anomaly" compared to other migrant receiving countries. By ignoring this, we ceded ground to shape progressive solutions to reactionaries

The promotion of drunkenness via the bottomless mimosa specials is something that evidence on alcohol safety explicitly warns against. If liquor laws were being enforced in Gauteng, many establishments would lose their licenses for encouraging excessive intoxication.

Mbeki’s serial revisionism will be the death of us.😭 He has been actively trying to whitewash his legacy for years. Remember the series of letters/essays he released on Facebook? Anyways, he apologised while he was still president for his admin’s mishandling of Eskom crisis.

Interesting observation.
There is a media outlet that has not said or published anything about the corruption allegations against Tony Leon or his use of power in the DA to influence tenders. Mind you, this media outlet has always branded itself as a corruption-fighting outlet, but it’s dololo now.

Ohh we been waiting for you hey. Finally you come out.
SA loves lecturing on human rights, but its "Rainbow Nation" is bleeding from violent xenophobia. Instead of taking responsibility, Justice Minister @MamolokoKubayi falls back on the oldest hate. While openly admitting she has "no evidence," she desperately spins wild conspiracies to mask government panic over a repeat of 2021. Shameful scapegoating. No accountability. sundaytimes.timeslive.co.za/…
