Still waiting on that one founder who gates a VC chat until they have played with the product and come with at least two pieces of feedback..
Blows my mind that people go on Zoom and chat for 30 mins on a parroted deck for literally the entire day - where it could have been a significantly more productive conversation if you just did a product brainstorm instead. Or even better just spend the entire time getting to know each other.
Am I just weird? Like how do you (both founders while fundraising and VCs generally) do this all day? What alpha do you get from hearing the same story again? Itās just more efficient for both sides to upload their personal āpromptsā to Claude at this point to do this digitally š

Iām one of the more vocal critics of Gemini and their product experience but itās still the only place where with a single API key you can really do it all..

Itās AGI summer and Iām seeing plenty of ātouristsā who are visiting SF - just like last year..
And, then they go back and say SF has no soul, itās just 996 culture and itās just AI. Also itās dirty and smells - and did you notice the homeless?
While there is some truth to ALL the claims, you really shouldnāt judge this city on a few days (or honestly even weeks).
Donāt be a tourist, and spend time here. Booms and busts will happen. But, it really can be wonderful. And if itās not for you, then itās not for you. Go make the place youāre going back to all that you want it to be.

The talent vortex of @OpenAI and @AnthropicAI is only getting crazier.. in the last 2 months, four personal friends have left VERY established roles to join the labs.
The dual draw of building one of the most consequential companies plus it being pre-IPO and getting liquidity is just too hard to pass up.
This means having strong conviction and MASSIVE ambition if you choose to do it on your own.
My only counter to Xaviās position will be that most VCs actually wonāt make a lot of money.. at least life changing money. Some of them have actually deflected to the labs knowing this. Like any role the best ones will thrive and survive!

I am increasingly convinced there are only 2 ways to reliably make money in this AI cycle:
1. Be a great investor who can spread risk across many bets.
2. Work at OpenAI or Anthropic.
Anyone else that makes real $$$ (including startup founders) are the exception that proves the rule and should feel blessed their lottery ticket hit š°
I think we're deluding ourselves if we pretend anything else is true.
I am not saying don't build. I'm building.
I think we should just be honest with ourselves.
No amount of hard work or luck will save you.
So what should we do? I think you have 2 options whether you are a startup founder, work at a startup or even a larger company.
I would ask myself:
1. Am I in a winner?
2. Do I have a very clear edge to win?
If the answer to either of those is no, I would drop everything and try to align myself with one of the points above.

Brazil nicking it at the last minute after being 1-0 down and a valiant display by Japan.
Paraguay deservedly winning against Germany after a WILD penalty shootout.
Netherlands sneaking into extra time with a 91st minute equalizer against Morocco and this one is probably going to the shootouts too.

There are no hacks for engagement, and whenever anyone asks what should I do to increase presence on X, this is what I send.

Not sure why 40k follow my random thoughts here on Twitter (fine X), but thank you to each one of you..
I tend to randomly oscillate between long form writing, shower thoughts on tech, community building & snippets of family life. If you are expecting only one, there are plenty of significantly better accounts.
Some of my closest personal and professional friendships have originated because of X. A lot of them through cold DMs. I wouldnāt be professionally where I am without this platform tbh.
No matter how many wild changes āsink inā over the years, this platform continues to embody the word anti fragile.
