Leclerc wins dramatic British Grand Prix from Russell and Hamilton as Antonelli suffers issue
Charles Leclerc emerged as the victor in a hugely eventful British Grand Prix, the Ferrari driver taking the win while Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli fell backwards following an issue on his car.
Charles Leclerc has claimed victory in a dramatic British Grand Prix, with Kimi Antonelli dropping backwards due to a car issue in the latter stages while a crash for Max Verstappen triggered a late-race Safety Car.
Leclerc made a lightning start, the Monegasque and team mate Lewis Hamilton getting ahead of Antonelli off the line. While Antonelli eventually caught Hamilton for P2, Leclerc remained steady ahead, only losing the lead when he made his pit stop.
That handed P1 to Antonelli, who stretched out his stint before eventually pitting on Lap 36. The Italian promptly went on the chase of Leclerc – but this came undone when he experienced an issue with his car on Lap 41, which the team suggested was a left front wheel shield failure.
After two further pit stops, Antonelli managed to continue on but had dropped to P10, as well as receiving a five-second time penalty for track limits. Further drama then followed when Verstappen spun off into the gravel trap on Lap 48, resulting in the Safety Car being deployed.
With the race then ending under the Safety Car, Leclerc crossed the line to claim his ninth career win ahead of Mercedes’ George Russell – who, in staying out on track while others pitted during the Safety Car phase, managed to leapfrog Hamilton.
The final spot on the podium went to Hamilton – a position he retained after being investigated post-race for a yellow flag infringement, with the stewards handing the seven-time World Champion a reprimand – while fellow home favourite Lando Norris was fourth for McLaren. (Credit: Formula One)

Leclerc Claims First 2026 Win in Thrilling British Grand Prix
Starting second, Leclerc capitalized on Kimi Antonelli's technical issues and Max Verstappen's late spin at Stowe to lead under the safety car, finishing ahead of Mercedes duo George Russell and Lewis Hamilton—who fought back despite a penalty. Russell's gutsy call to stay out boosted him to second for his first Silverstone top-two, while Lando Norris took fourth and Isack Hadjar fifth. Before the race, drivers turned a LEGO minicar parade into bumper-car chaos, with even skeptics like Verstappen and Hamilton joining the laughs—Fernando Alonso cheekily claiming victory via shortcuts. Leclerc's 25 points trimmed Antonelli's title lead, heating up the championship run to Spa.

What makes the Austrian Grand Prix special – and why you should see it
Discover what makes the F1 weekend in Austria unmissable.
The Austrian Grand Prix is a classic, and might just be held at one of the most picturesque track on the F1 calendar. Set in the Styrian hills, around 700m above sea level, the short track features rapid lap times and plenty of overtaking opportunities.
Despite the Red Bull Ring having the fewest corners of any circuit on the schedule, it's seen many unforgettable moments throughout the years – and, as the name might suggest, is the track that Red Bull calls home.
Let's take a look at just some of the reasons why Austria is so alluring.
Austrian racing heritage
Austria, despite it's relatively small population, has heaps of racing heritage. Triple World Champion Niki Lauda was born in Vienna, winning titles for Ferrari and McLaren, and was a major factor behind Mercedes’ success while helping convince Lewis Hamilton to join the outfit in 2013.
Jochen Rindt was Austria's first champion – the only posthumous F1 title winner, having tragically passed away during his dominant 1970 season. Gerhard Berger, while never taking the title himself, scored 10 wins during his illustrious career.
More recently, the late Austrian entrepreneur Dietrich Mateschitz and former Austrian F1 racer Helmut Marko – in his role as motorsport advisor – played key roles in Red Bull's success, with the team clinching eight Drivers’ and six Constructors’ titles.
When is the 2026 Austrian Grand Prix?
The 2026 Austrian Grand Prix weekend begins on Friday 26 June, with F1 cars hitting the track for the first two Free Practice sessions, before Free Practice 3 and Qualifying take place on Saturday 27 June. The Grand Prix itself is on Sunday 28 June, at 1500 local time.

Verstappen Slams 2026 F1 Cars as Formula E on Steroids
Charles Leclerc topped timesheets with a 1:34.273 lap for Ferrari on day two of F1's first pre-season test, ahead of Lando Norris's P2 and Haas rookie Oliver Bearman's strong P3.
The new 2026 rules bring smaller chassis, active aero, and power units with nearly 50% electric power, tightening lap times around 1:34 but drawing fire from Verstappen over heavy energy management he calls anti-racing. Norris urged drivers to stop whining, while Lewis Hamilton found them fun yet ridiculously complex; Red Bull hit technical snags, Mercedes engine issues, and three more test days remain before the March 7-9 opener.
