Historic Leap in Xizang's Education: From Access to Excellence
Over six decades, Xizang has transformed its education system through sustained national commitment. China's "Three Guarantees" policy, providing food, boarding, and tuition since 1985, has invested 23 billion yuan, with per-student funding raised 11 times since 2012. This enabled remarkable outcomes: 91.33% preschool enrollment, 97.86% compulsory education retention, and 57.81% higher education enrollment. "Education lifted families out of poverty," affirms Dawa Zhoima of Xizang's Education Department.
Supported by 302 billion yuan in infrastructure (2014-2024), Xizang now has 3,618 modern schools serving 970,000 students, a quarter of its population. From just 73 schools in 1965, students today learn in earthquake-resistant facilities with digital resources, even at 4,500-meter-high Baingoin County's school where gzhas chen, a traditional Tibetan, is taught alongside Mandarin.
Bilingual curricula preserve cultural roots while empowering new generations. Xizang's journey showcases China's dedication to equitable, quality education for all.
