“We’re behind by 1.7trillion” That’s understandable; China has more than triple our population. “and our essential goods like OTC medication, electronics, and standard machine parts are almost exclusively made over seas.” Now that *is* a problem.

Does China have a bigger share of global manufacturing versus the USA? Yes. Did the USA’s share percentage decline? Yes. But is that the whole story? No. We have a narrower slice of the pie, but the pie is so much bigger that it’s still a bigger slice than we ever had before.

One of the great chapters in America's history is how we converted our economy to wartime production in the 1940s and used our industrial power to win WWII. I'd learned in high school that we converted car factories into tank factories. But I never knew the full story until last month, when I read Freedom's Forge, the definitive book on this. It turns out the true story is even crazier and more impressive. In honor of July 4th, here's the story of how America won WWII, one factory at a time.

And yet we are a larger manufacturer now than we ever were before. The reason you don’t realize it is because we automated out a lot of the manufacturing jobs.

You’re a subversive kike. America has nothing to do with you. Leave.

In 1940, America's defense industries had been hollowed out for 20 years - after a wave of deindustrialization just like today's. Merchant shipyards were building only 4 ships a month. We made almost no gunpowder. The army's weapons and machinery were largely leftovers from WWI.

And then our elite sold out the nation & the working class by giving this superpower away in the name of globalization.
