dataing V2 is officially live on iOS web 💘🍾 Built by a small bootstrapped team with one mission: Use AI to support human relationships, not replace them. Cupid turns every spark into signal by helping people use their own data to understand themselves, their matches, and the connections worth exploring. More agency. More clarity. Better relationships.

Instagram just launched forced data collection to use their app. Meanwhile, Dataing local models are making major progress.

The issue isn’t just what Meta is collecting. It’s that your data gets trapped inside platforms built to keep you there. The future should be different: opt-in, portable, deletable, and useful to the person who created it. At Dataing, users can connect data sources, remove them anytime, and delete their account/data together. Long term, we think people should own the upside too, including choosing when their data can be monetized. AI should help people have better relationships and live more offline. Not just feed another engagement machine.
Instagram launches forced Data Collection to use their app If you login and get this prompt, you must accept data all this data collection or you will be promoted to log out and not allowed to use the App Here is a full down of what’s mandatory to give up to use Instagram: Collection and use of personal data: They collect our activity on Instagram (posts, stories, likes, comments, searches, time spent), device info, IP address, contacts (if synced), messages, location (when enabled), demographics, and inferred interests Sharing of data with other Meta companies. They take all the personal data they collected and share across Facebook, WhatsApp, Threads, Oculus, etc. Cross-border transfers of personal data: Your data is sent and stored in the US and other countries where Meta has offices/data centers or partners. Location information: Precise location (GPS when you use features like Stories or check-ins), approximate location from IP/Wi-Fi, and location-based activity history. Stop using META products

Real user using Dataing to plan an actual date in Utah. What’s interesting here isn’t just the recommendation. Most AI systems from @OpenAI and @AnthropicAI primarily operate from the context of a single user in a single conversation. That context is naturally limited. Relationships don’t work that way. Compatibility only makes sense relative to another person: communication style, humor, energy, interests, values, pace, emotional dynamic. Cupid is designed around understanding both people, not just one isolated prompt. We also think users should own their data. If a Dataing user deletes their account, their data is deleted with it. No permanent behavioral vaults. No hidden relationship graphs. No optimizing for dependency or endless engagement. Just AI designed to help people spend less time on screens and more time connecting in the real world. We’re also making major progress with our open source and local models, which we believe are important for creating AI systems that are more private, transparent, composable, and aligned with users.

Dataing wasn’t funded by massive VC rounds. At one point, part of the funding came from @MarkKilaghbian selling @Yugioh cards. Oddly enough, I think that helped us build better technology. When you’re bootstrapped, inefficiency can kill you. You’re forced to optimize. Forced to listen. Forced to build things users actually want. A lot of VC-backed consumer apps end up with misaligned incentives: maximize engagement, maximize retention, maximize revenue for the LP's at the expense of users. Not to mention a lot of flaws get covered up by throwing money at the problem. We’ve worked hard to keep our incentives aligned with users while building an efficient, empathetic product we genuinely believe is best-in-class.

We really enjoyed this space yesterday. We’re excited to help bring together the open source AI and crypto communities around sovereign local models and portable profiles. The future feels increasingly composable: your identity, preferences, agents, and models moving with you, not locked inside platforms. Local open source generally creates better incentives for users: • more ownership • more transparency • more portability • more security • more aligned systems • Less cost Composable ecosystems are powerful because builders can build on top of each other instead of constantly rebuilding from scratch or competing behind closed walls. That dramatically accelerates innovation, network effects, and attracts mission-driven talent aligned around creating better systems for users. Composable software is to technology what compounding interest is to finance. S/O @LocalIntelProj

AI agents won’t walk into a bank and open a bank account They need digital money As agentic commerce accelerates, crypto becomes essential infrastructure Grateful to the @Stacks for supporting what we’re building at @dataing_io and @toony1908 for leading @x402stacks on BTC.

A user recently shared that Cupid helped strengthen their relationship. Not because AI replaced human connection. But because it helped create more understanding, empathy, and communication between two people. Cupid was designed to support human relationships, not replace them. We believe technology should help people connect more deeply, communicate more clearly, and build healthier relationships that last.

Yep…. and it will likely require an aligned AI to fix it. Which is what we’re building at @dataing_io and also why we’re building it
remember how Sama said social feeds are the first misaligned AI this is basically confirmed. social feeds are causing mass extinction not through an elaborate yudkowskian p_doom fantasy but by eliminating the natural urge to procreate. (blog.samaltman.com/the-gentl…)

Josh and Eric discuss a question they think the dating industry still hasn’t solved: If a dating app created a happy couple tomorrow, that couple would leave the app. Which means the platform loses two paying customers. That incentive structure shapes more of the industry than people realize. In this conversation, they also discuss: → Why every dating app you've used is structurally designed to keep you single → Saying no to a VC's who are misaligned with users → The 199 antifragile versions of Dataing they've shipped → "With AI, trust is the new moat" youtube.com/watch?v=5vtfU6SV…

Really grateful to the @UCLA Bruin Finance Society for having us. For an early-stage startup, conversations like these matter a lot. The feedback, recommendations, and perspectives from the BFS members were incredibly valuable and will directly help shape what we’re building at Dataing.

One of the simplest visualizations of relationship dynamics we’ve seen. Healthy relationships are rarely built through pressure or endless attention. They’re usually built through understanding, emotional balance, timing, and reciprocity. We believe the future of AI matchmaking is not generating more matches. It’s helping people better understand themselves and each other. That’s why we’re building Dataing.
