This is what the resurrection of Jesus must’ve felt like
We’ve received notice that the Department of Commerce has lifted export controls on Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5. We'll begin restoring access tomorrow, and will share an update soon. We’re grateful to our users for their patience, and to everyone who worked with us on redeploying the models.

The prediction: a new interface for each task What really happened: one interface for every task
there are zero dynamic interfaces or apps that tailor themselves to the user that i know of can someone enlighten me why ai suddenly changes this just moving a single button will confuse an entire enterprise, when do we learn that feature discovery is the worlds hardest problem

Sorry, next version of @variantui will be for PATRIOTS ONLY 🇺🇸🫡🇺🇸
The US government, citing national security authorities, has issued an export control directive to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether inside or outside the United States, including foreign national Anthropic employees. The net effect of this order is that we must abruptly disable Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all our customers to ensure compliance. Access to all other Claude models is not affected. We apologize for this disruption to our customers. We believe this is a misunderstanding and are working to restore access as soon as possible. Read our full statement: anthropic.com/news/fable-myt…

Boring but: never had a bad experience with an investor, all incredibly attentive and kind
I was once pitching in a board room at a top 3 VC firm for a $15M Series A. 12 people in the meeting. One of the GPs fully fell asleep. Out cold for 30 minutes. Nobody acknowledged it. Everyone just kept going. I kept presenting my Series A slides to an unconscious man in a Herman Miller chair and somehow that was considered normal. That's venture capital. You might fly across the country to perform for people who may or may not be conscious. It's a dance. And sometimes you lead and sometimes you follow and sometimes your partner is unconscious. If you're raising right now, just know: every founder has a story like this. The process is weird. The power dynamic is weird. You're not crazy for thinking it's weird. No one talks about it because they want to continue raising. But I'm happy to stick my neck out there. It is weird.

Famous story about Jobs that I think is misunderstood: Jobs hired Paul Rand (godfather of modern corporate logos) to design the NeXT logo When jobs asked for several option, Rand told him “No. I will solve your problem, and you will pay me…if you want options go talk to other people” We designers like to think of this as a win for creative integrity, pushing back against asshole clients (even one as powerful as Jobs) But I think Jobs just genuinely wanted to be a part of the creative process the only way he knew how: comparing options and using his legendary judgement
A designer's job is to produce multiple variants so their boss can pick their favorite one

AI products have a different PMF: Product Model Fit Pre-PMF: Models are not capable enough to enable your product (2015 chatbots) PMF: When models get better, your product gets better (Codex/Claude Code) Post-PMF: Models are a lot more capable than your product can express (Copilot/IDEs)
Our 2026 Design in AI Report is now live! This report is the culmination of thousands of people hours and many late nights to create what we believe is the most comprehensive, well-researched report capturing and synthesizing the state of Design AI today. While we used AI in many areas, a report like this still required deep thinking, grit, and humans coming together to do what they do best. The final report spans nearly 20k words covering the survey results of over 900 people paired with dozens of qualitative interviews. Over the coming months we will also release 7 beautiful case studies showing how top design teams are working on the ground featuring designers at @AnthropicAI, @framer, @linear, @NotionHQ, @Shopify, @SierraPlatform, and @stripe. This work is a true labor of love to help guide a design community we hold so dear. Link in the comments and please let us know what you think. Your feedback helps us shape how we will evolve this work over the coming years...

There's a very real limit to the number of brands/products a person can reliably remember A sort of Dunbar's number Just because you can build everything, doesn't mean you should
My head is spinning from Google I/O. It leads me to a request for OpenAI and Anthropic: Please avoid sprawl. Just give me a single powerful agentic tool like Codex or Cowork through which I can do everything. I don't want to have to think about whether to use Spark or Antigravity or AI Studio, or Flow or Pomelli or Pics. I accept that these may meet the needs of different users, and Google knows how to run a killer business. But personally, I just want one interface to rule them all, and am willing to pay for that simplicity. I can't imagine true AGI needs all these surfaces.

My 5-star travel booking experience: It’s done extensive research on me (previous destinations, restaurants, experiences etc) and plans/books the entire trip while making the same tradeoffs (price/quality/availability/pacing) that I would’ve chosen Knows whoever I’m going on the trip with and can make balanced decisions there too
The ChatGPT interface doesn’t work for this. We’ve already tried it.

The No Engineer will be replaced by the No Designer/PM
For 50 years, software engineering ran on code rationing. Writing code was expensive, so we rationed it carefully through roadmaps, RFCs, prioritization meetings, and scope reviews. This created a role: the No Engineer. No, that won't scale. No, we don't have bandwidth. No, that's out of scope. No, we need a design doc first. The No Engineer was valuable for 50 years. Every "no" saved real money. Their judgment was the rationing system. LLMs will be the end of code rationing. Code is cheap now. And while the No Engineer is explaining why something can't be done, the Yes Engineer has already shipped three versions of it. If you're a Yes Engineer, the next decade is yours.

I’m looking for my replacement at @variantui No, I’m not going anywhere, but I have less and less time to do the work I truly love: minding the details It’s hard to let go, but I think it’s finally time If you’re an incredible design engineer and want to work on features like this, DMs open
