EasyJet has reached an agreement in principle with a US investment firm over a potential takeover offer worth around £5.2 billion. On Sunday EasyJet's board of directors and Castlelake said they had reached an agreement in principle on a proposal put forward on 4 July, worth £6.90 per share. Castlelake now needs to get regulatory clearances and the approvals required for the transaction to go ahead.

A Papua separatist group has shot dead an American pilot who allegedly transported Indonesian troops into the restive province. A spokesman for the West Papua Liberation Army, or TPNPB, said its fighters fatally shot Nicholas F. Goselin and set fire to an aircraft operated by PT AMA, an Indonesian airline, in Balinggama village. The plane was carrying one pilot and seven passengers, Indonesia’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation said. After the pilot reported that the aircraft had landed, communications with personnel at the airstrip were subsequently lost, the ministry said in a statement.

Royal Jordanian crew injured and one killed when their airport shuttle bus overturned in a multi-car pileup on the Long Island Expressway in Queens late Monday night. The crash happened around 11:45 p.m. on the westbound Long Island Expressway in New York City. The chartered bus was an airport shuttle, occupied by the crew of Royal Jordanian Flight 8261, which arrived from Amman Jordan at Kennedy Airport just before 9:45 p.m. The crew was on the way to their hotel. The driver of the bus and one passenger were pronounced dead. The driver of one of the vehicles traveling in the eastbound lanes was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Three other drivers involved in the crash were reported to be stable.

S7 Airlines Boeing 737-800 carrying 173 passengers veers off the runway after landing at Mirny Airport in Russia's Yakutia region. The aircraft was operating a scheduled flight from Novosibirsk to the city of Mirny. According to the West Siberian Transport Prosecutor's Office, there were 173 passengers and six crew members on board, and no injuries were reported. "The Novosibirsk Transport Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation to ensure the airline is complying with flight safety regulations," the prosecutor's office said in a statement. The East Siberian Transport Prosecutor's Office said the aircraft sustained damage during the runway excursion and that all passengers and crew members were safely evacuated.
