One thing you get for free moving to Base UI from Radix is speed. I benchmarked the areas that most affect perf (opening a dialog on a big page, mounting lots of selects, opening big menus, sweeping over menu items etc.) In each of the six scenarios, Base UI was the fastest.
Starting today, we are making @base_ui the default component library in shadcn/ui. First, a bit of history. When shadcn/ui launched in 2023, it was built on Radix. At the time, nothing else came close. Headless. Accessible. Composable. Fast forward a few years and the team who built Radix are building something new: Base UI.

Fable was great at code reviews I compared 4 models on the quality of their reviews of a complex React component (same prompt for each). Was nice while it lasted... Even still, they each found something the others didn’t

i hate it when tooltips jump around when you hover over them and switch between items, really like the fact that making this kind of smooth tooltip is very trivial with @base_ui

Base UI crossed 1.1M weekly downloads. We grew ~19% weekly for the past 7 weeks. Not that for one year in 📈

I'm constantly impressed by @base_ui's flexibility. You can use NumberField's scrub area to make the input scrubbable, and even place other interactive elements like menu triggers on top:

shadcn 🤝 Base UI A first class integration. Same shadcn abstraction, rebuilt for Base UI components.
Start with a component library: Radix or Base UI. We rebuilt every component for Base UI, keeping the same abstraction. They are fully compatible with your existing components, even those pulled from remote registries. When you add components, we auto-detect your library and apply the right transformations.

Opening up coss ui 🎉 The new UI we're building for the @calcom platform. Built on top of @base_ui, as we strongly believe in the project and the team behind it. It's now open to everyone who wants to test it, break it, and make it better 💪

The names are not necessarily finalized (or all shipping in the next release together), but hopefully!

Short explainer: 1. Combobox = input select options (filterable select) 2. Autocomplete = input suggestions (e.g. search widget) 3. FilterableMenu = input menu items (e.g. cmd k, emoji picker)

Thanks @base_ui team for the llms.txt feature. It's crazy how simple and fast you can migrate all codebase to replace all outdated code with just Claude Code and 1 simple prompt: > Update all React components that use Radix UI to use Base UI instead (base-ui.com/llms.txt)
