.@willob: "I think it's worth going back and looking at history to understand that this is a historic anomaly that we haven't been as obsessed with exploring the oceans." "Since the dawn of time, mankind has dreamed of sea creatures, expeditions at sea." "And then it seems around the kind of sixties and seventies, um, we kind of forgot about it."

" It's exactly this kind of exploration spirit... we're trying to reignite and be like SpaceX for the ocean: get young kids dreaming about being aquanauts as well as astronauts." .@willob explains the  cultural and military reasons why there are so relatively few ocean tech companies: "The Navy had this program called SEALAB... they were sending people down to live at the bottom of the ocean." "Very unfortunately, we had the death of one of the members, Barry Cannon... down there." "That combined with the redirecting of a lot of the Navy's budget towards things like focusing on Vietnam... led to neglecting funding and resources." "50 years later, we're still working with the same tools in the ocean."

The Ocean is Earth's last Great Frontier. Historically, the pursuit of Frontiers has been one of the greatest engines of progress that mankind has ever known.
