Good Monday morning X. I remain heartbroken over the loss of Dan Coate @CoateDan. I stayed off X since hearing the news Saturday until now. I needed time to even begin processing it and frankly I’m not sure I have or will. I never met Dan or his lovely wife Jen @FAFOJen1776 in the real world, but our interactions here were genuine. He was a fellow patriot, straight-talking and devoted to this country. Now he’s gone after a long battle with depression and I’m struggling to understand. This has been a hard reminder that we truly never know what people are dealing with behind the posts. Tangential connections on here can still hit deep when they’re lost. Anger, sadness, trying to reconcile something that can’t be fully reconciled. That’s where I am and it’s a lot. As a Catholic, I’m leaning on Church teaching: suicide is grave, but with mental illness, responsibility can be greatly diminished and God’s mercy is infinite. “We should not despair of the eternal salvation of persons who have taken their own lives.” The Church prays for them. I pray for them. To everyone carrying silent weight, please “Don’t let the hard days win.” (Til Valhalla) My recommendation, check on your people. Reach out. Life is a gift we steward, not own. Prayers 🙏 for Jen, the family and all who knew Dan. He was a bright light in this community. Rest easy, brother.
