As we celebrate America’s 250th birthday, we honor and celebrate the extraordinary independence our Founding Fathers secured—and the brave men and women who have heroically fought to maintain that independence for the last 250 years. It’s worth remembering that trade was a prominent part of America’s case for independence. The Declaration of Independence specifically condemned Britain “For cutting off our Trade with all parts of the world.” The Founders understood that true independence required the American people to control their own trade policy and commercial destiny. Over the next 250 years, the United States transformed into the greatest economy the world has ever seen. Today, under President Trump’s America First trade policy, U.S. goods exports have reached the highest level in our history. America is building more, producing more, and selling more to the world. This week in Chicago, Illinois, Deputy Under Secretary for Innovation and Engagement Bill Guidera attended #Automate2026, North America’s largest robotics and automation show 🦾⚙️🔋. This week in Seoul, Korea 🇰🇷 Acting Assistant Secretary for Enforcement and Compliance Christopher Abbott led the U.S. delegation to the Seoul International Forum on Trade Remedies. At the Forum, he presented on ITA’s practices and methodologies in the administration of trade remedies and met with trade remedy authorities to advance U.S. trade enforcement priorities.

This week, Advocacy Center Executive Director Hiro Rodriguez met with the AmChams of Asia Pacific 🌏 during their annual visit to Washington, D.C. to highlight Trump Administration advocacy priorities and reforms that strengthen defense advocacy. They also discussed U.S.–regional commercial ties and regional trends where ITA’s Global Markets team is pursuing hundreds of foreign procurement opportunities worth $494 billion for U.S. companies.

Steel is the backbone of a sovereign nation. A country that can’t make steel can’t build its own bridges, ships, pipelines, railcars, factories, power plants, cars, trucks, tanks, or submarines.
