This ‘Canadian view’ comes from Stephen Marche, a writer with a consistent pattern of America-critical pieces. Don’t expect a foreign academic with clear partisan leanings to deliver an objective take on U.S. history. Just look at his other work — it’s overwhelmingly one-sided. He seems to have a particular fixation on criticizing America around Independence Day. His tone was noticeably different during the Biden years. The only real satisfaction here is knowing that most Americans simply don’t care what he thinks. In fact, being disliked by a bitter outsider who resents American independence is oddly empowering.
