For 40 years, my dad worked as a short-order cook and my mom cleaned houses. It’s because of their hard work and sacrifices that I stand here today, ready to preserve and fight for the American Dream.

Happy 4th of July, California! 🇺🇸🎇   Today, I’m reflecting on how far we’ve come as a nation and the work ahead to ensure everyone is treated with dignity and justice.

The Trump Administration is gutting renewable energy while funneling more subsidies to Big Oil billionaires and dragging the country into a war that's rattling global oil markets. The result: higher electricity bills, skyrocketing prices at the gas pump, and no relief for families struggling to make ends meet.

Despite Trump’s best efforts, the Supreme Court made it clear: the Constitution decides who is a citizen, not the President.

Today marks 62 years since the Civil Rights Act was signed into law.    A corner stone of voting rights in America, this legislation didn’t just happen overnight. It was a result of a tireless fight by organizers and activists across the country.    Today, as we see the Trump administration attempt to tamper with our elections and restrict voting rights, we can learn from those who paved the way before us to not give up and keep fighting to protect our free and fair elections.

From the same president who won’t sign a bipartisan housing affordability bill into law.

As the proud son of immigrants, the Supreme Court’s ruling on birthright citizenship is personal to me.    The 14th Amendment is clear: every kid born here is a citizen who deserves a shot at the American dream.

If you are born in the United States, you are a citizen. Period.

The Constitution could not be clearer: if you are born in the United States, you are a citizen of the United States. Period. No ambiguity. While there is nothing surprising about Donald Trump’s efforts to erode birthright citizenship and disregard laws he doesn’t like, today’s decision reaffirms over a century of legal precedent protecting this fundamental constitutional right. This is personal. I am a proud son of immigrants. I was born in the United States. I am a proud citizen of the United States with freedom to pursue the American Dream. Yet, while we celebrate this ruling today, we cannot rest. Because this is certainly not the end of Trump’s attacks on our Constitution, our democracy, and the notion of what it means to be American. As Americans, we will continue to organize, vote, legislate, and litigate because our country depends on it.

Congratulations to my friend, @SpeakerPelosi on this exciting new venture with @UCBerkeley. Our democracy should never be taken for granted. It’s great to see new resources dedicated to preserving and strengthening it.

Today’s decision is a victory for voting rights and a rejection of Trump’s attacks on mail and absentee voters. Our democracy works best when as many eligible voters participate and when every eligible vote is counted. For decades, Congress and states like California have worked to expand voting rights and access while keeping elections safe and secure — and that includes states exercising the right to accept eligible voters’ ballots postmarked on or before Election Day. While we continue to see unprecedented efforts to interfere with election from the Trump Administration, it is a relief to see federal courts make clear that these attacks on mail and absentee voting are clearly illegal and unconstitutional.

Why are Republicans so afraid if they have nothing to hide?

Trump is doing everything he can to meddle in this November’s election.  I’m leading Senate Democrats’ efforts to fight for the integrity of our elections by training election observers to ensure that every eligible vote gets counted.

Today marks 11 years since marriage equalitybecame the law of the land, affirming that LGBTQ couples are entitled to the same right to marry as straight couples.    With attacks and harsh rhetoric surrounding the LGBTQ community increasing, I won’t stop fighting for equality and the right to live an authentic life.

The Supreme Court’s decision abandons America’s longstanding commitment that those fleeing persecution would have the chance to ask for protection. Denying them that chance is both inhumane and immoral.  We need immediate accountability and long-term reform.

To sum it up: Trump wants to make voting more difficult and housing more expensive.

The Supreme Court has once again gotten it wrong, breaking from the spirit of the of the law and Congress’ intent. In a massive blow to our communities, they just greenlit Trump’s plan to strip TPS from thousands of people who have fled humanitarian crises, some who have been living and working in the US for decades.    This is devastating to people who have built their lives here. I will not stop fighting for a pathway to citizenship for families across America.
