Unlimited term LTC insurance is still available today. Most of my clients who buy the unlimited LTCi policies are doctors or lawyers or nursing home administrators. youtube.com/watch?v=p7ytytUi…
I feel like this issue is just getting worse. Resources my mother has- like amazing unlimited term LTC insurance- are almost extinct now- and with prohibitive premiums. Makes me very concerned for those of us who will be needing care next.

Infinite banking is one of the most misunderstood concepts in personal finance. The pitch version: use whole life insurance to become your own bank and never pay interest to anyone again. The reality is more nuanced and more interesting. A properly structured whole life policy from a mutual carrier builds guaranteed cash value every year. The dividend history at top carriers spans decades without interruption. You can borrow against that cash value at any time. No credit check. No application. No income verification. The loan accrues interest but the cash value continues to compound internally as if the loan were never taken. That is the arbitrage the strategy is built around. Here is what most people selling it get wrong. The strategy requires a permanent commitment to premium. Loans must be serviced or the policy can lapse with a significant tax consequence. And it works best when funded with dollars that have no better tax efficient home. Funded correctly and serviced for life it is a legitimate planning tool. Sold as a miracle to someone who should own term first it is a commission strategy wearing a concept.

Why did someone have to tell him? If he was smart enough to hold a job for 40 yrs and manage his own home, he was smart enough to ASK about long term care. AND buy long term care insurance. That's also a super expensive long term car facility.

There is long term care insurance, if bought early in life it is very affordable. Clearly your uncle didn't know this. Learn from his mistakes, you too will one day get old. I would suggest that in addtion to complaining about society you get prepared.

Stop guessing how you'll "feel" about spending your savings in the future. Instead, ask the one practical question that cuts through the noise and actually protects your estate. Why do most long-term care plans fail before they even start? It comes down to a single question, and why the answer you give while healthy completely changes when reality hits. That's no longer true. The WA Cares benefits can now be received outside of Washington state: wacaresfund.wa.gov/news/port…
The long term care insurance is a scam. When I move out of state you keep it and don’t let me have it even though you forced me to pay it

Not all elimination periods work the same way. Some policies have separate elimination periods for home care and facility care, and understanding the difference between service day and calendar day can make a major impact during a claim. Most people think a “service day” means 24 hour care. It doesn’t. With the most common Type A elimination period, even a short home health aide visit can count as one full day toward your elimination period. Understanding this can make a huge difference when it’s time to file a claim. A real life example of how a 90 service day elimination period worked for our family. Small daily home care visits made a huge difference and helped satisfy the elimination period quickly with minimal out of pocket expense. Most later-in-life couples don't realize that #prenups won't protect assets if the other spouse needs #longtermcare
They're also incredibly important in later-in-life marriages. It's often less about planning for divorce and more about making it crystal clear how the marriage and the estate plan are intended to work together.

It's important to shop around for long-term care insurance. Prices vary A LOT. youtube.com/watch?v=j-BVm9oK…
You ever price long-term care insurance at age 60?

LTC insurance daily limits are chosen by the policyholder at the time of application. With my mother-in-law, we chose a daily limit that was higher than current costs at the time. She also had inflation protection. That is why her policy covered the full cost of her care, except for the first 90 days. Even so, is it a bad thing if someone's long-term care insurance, plus social security, plus interest income, plus RMD's are enough to cover the full cost of care? Isn't it a good thing to not have to liquidate assets?
Yeah, that's how it goes for most, 0 pre planning at all. We're vary rural, the majority of $1M retirees are farmers and they generally pass on assets to children well before a nursing home becomes a realistic outcome. My issue with LTC insurance is the daily limits are based on today's cost with a modest 3% inflation, 2019-2022 had a cumulative inflation of <20%. Those numbers dont work and most people are completely caught off guard that their insurance only covers 50%. Surprisingly there's constantly a small number of residents who private pay for their entire stay, no insurance, no medicaid.

Why wouldn't it be worth it for you? Don't you want to protect your assets for your spouse? If one of you had to self-pay for long-term care for several years, how would that impact the future retirement income of the healthy spouse? Watch this: youtube.com/watch?v=UsLlbaxM…
We are in a similar financial situation and have been advised to NOT get LTC insurance b/c it wouldn't be worth it for us. We will be able to self pay.
