Cody’s character could see a major revival if WWE uses this time to really invest in him. Sami dropping the belt to Cody would fuel the hate in him and lead to an eventual heel turn. Sami needs to be beat Cody with now using cheap tricks to do so. You’ll be protecting Cody but also establishing Sami has the new heel for SmackDown. Now that he’s no longer WWE champion you can now revisit the Gunther feud. Cody no longer being the golden boy with no title and no management backing him you can finally get Gunther his much needed victory over Cody. Finally Cody would come face to face with Randy again who now gets his victory over Cody after losing to him at WrestleMania. While all of this is happening Punk is defending and defeating the top contenders as WWE Champion and becoming a dominant champion like Cody once was. You have Cody who is losing everything fight is way to an opportunity at the WWE title, imo via the Royal Rumble and have him choose CM Punk. A desperate Cody now crossing paths with a CM Punk who is the best he’s been in years. Potentially with Cody turning heel after.

This Sami Zayn promo was so good man. Listen I know people are going to be pissed about Sami potentially losing the WWE title but I feel like it’s going to make him one of the most compelling heels on SmackDown since KO in 2024-2025 The fact he won the title the right way without having to change, finally accomplishing his dream of being WWE champion just for him to have it all taken away from him by Cody is the perfect set up for a full heel turn with him costing Cody at SummerSlam. It could be one of the best non title feuds WWE has had since Drew/Punk imo. As for Cody I would love to see his character go through a lot of adversity racking up losses against Sami, Randy and even Gunther. The canonization of his addiction to the WWE title is exactly why him losing will be so pivotal to his character. It’ll force him to get desperate and become something he never wanted to in order to be WWE champion again.
