Bury North is my family’s home town I want for your family everything I want for mine Across our town we play by the rules to make ends meet We know its tough We know many more have it even tougher Our country is going backwards After 14 years of this Tory government, what works? What’s got better? Families are struggling with the cost of living crisis Ordinary working people, hammered with the highest taxes in 80 years Public Services have become Public Struggles The NHS is in crisis, waiting times are up, getting a GP appointment gets harder People are hard up, fed up but we mustn’t give up My faith in our town remains We need an MP that unites One that champions you and our town More money in your pocket Public services back on their feet, fit for the future Our schools need investment, and a plan for every child Children with special educational needs need specialism and real educational care Bury businesses need backing not burdening, whether they’re start up or scale-up The green jobs of the future must come to Bury first We must take back our streets from anti-social behaviour and crime Labour has changed and is ready to change Britain To make everyday life better for everyone To raise the floor on which we all stand You know I am on your side Together, we: Saved the walk-in centre; Funded our Hospice; Got the country behind saving Bury FC I’ve secured life-saving drugs for Bury families on the NHS; Championed local jobs; And I’m still fighting the inequalities in education Let’s move forward after these damaging Tory years Bury and Britain needs change, not more of the same It’s a clear choice between a changed Labour Party and the same old Tories We can build a better future It’s time for a fresh start Bury and Britain needs change I am change Bury North can trust And I am determined to deliver it, so that everyone of us can thrive. #ChangeYouCanTrust

Anna is spot on. The agile approach in campaigning is in particular something I credit Hollie’s leadership with. To maximize the vote to maximize our result. Huge congratulations on playing such a significant part in returning us to government, Hollie. And best of luck for the future. 🌹🗳️

I recently visited Northgate High School with the @ChildrensComm. The subject of digital and AI came up a lot, so I asked @JamesFrith what the Government is doing to make public services accessible in a modern age, and how we can boost young people's digital and ai skills.

Minister @JamesFrith spoke at @NewStatesman about the transformative ways technology can improve our public services, including through the digitisation and adoption of AI. Putting people across the UK at the heart of the public services they need.

As a constituency MP in Greater Manchester I can vouch for his record here. For nearly a decade, I’ve witnessed the case @andyburnham has been making for housing and the leadership, by example, that he’s shown on the issue. He deserves particular credit for consistently arguing that increasing the supply of social and council housing is vital and a priority, not simply more homes for sale. That isn’t to diminish the role that high-quality private development has played in Manchester’s success. Attracting talent, investment and businesses into the city has helped power the region’s growth he’s led. The point is that growth and social justice are a partnership, not competitors. The next step is patient and public capital that brings down the cost of building, planning reform that unlocks sites, and long-term regional investment that trains local people through our FE colleges to build the homes our communities need. The prize is enormous: economic growth, secure homes, skilled local jobs and, over time, a significant reduction in taxpayer money, through housing benefit, flowing to private landlords. Clarity of purpose like this is exactly what’s needed. I look forward to working with Andy to help deliver that ambition in Bury North and across Greater Manchester.
Let’s make it happen…

If true that @andyburnham not taking media questions after speech today then good move. Speeches matter and when important should speak for themselves. A problem with Keir S communications was that he would make a speech, then take Qs and the broadcast journalists in particular would make it more about them and their “take” than him. If and when he becomes PM Burnham will be answerable to Parliament, not the showbiz style media coverage of politics. The blah factory will go into overdrive today with journalists interviewing each other about how they ought to be allowed to ask Qs. The speech itself is more important than anything they say before during or after. Setting the agenda vital from the off.

Gutted it’s gone down like this though. Not least because I feel like Stokes deserved to give himself more than what feels like a hurried exit. Though maybe he really believes its better to burn out than fade away, rock and roll till then end. Moments today when his 'one more bit of business' line would be immortalised, but on this occasion he didn't break the back of the target he was pursuing. He's given Test fans like me some of the best moments in recent years. He changed the game and is a proper English cricketing legend. Thank you Ben. I still think Root might get the Captaincy back, to steer Baz and his ball, to its final destination for England.

We made a promise to the British people to close Tory asylum hotels. They undermine trust in the system, and weaken community cohesion. We will do whatever it takes to achieve it. Today, we announced the close of 20 more. Over 50% have been closed now. We are making more progress: - Boat crossings down 40% - 70,000 illegal migrants deported - Asylum backlog has been halved. - Immigration down by over 80% from Boris wave high. @SkyNews x.com/Haggis_UK/status/20703…
