In ultras there are highs and lows. There could be multiple lows. Very long lows. But it passes. Lindsey Dwyer on For The Long Run this week — two Cocodona 250 finishes, a hurt knee at mile fifty, and what actually gets you through it. Listen wherever you get your podcasts.

Ryan Montgomery just finishedĀ THIRDĀ at Western States. Last fall, he joined us onĀ For the Long RunĀ & talked about embracing discomfort instead of avoiding it. A huge congratulations to Ryan on an incredible race. If you haven't listened to this conversation yet, now's the time.

Lindsey Dwyer's honest answer for why she got into ultrarunning? She didn't like speed work. She just wanted to do the long runs. So she skipped the speed work, went longer, and ended up finishing Cocodona 250 twice. This week on For The Long Run with Lindsey Dwyer.

In 2018, I ran the Manitou Incline with @Zach_Miller_38 and at dinner afterwards I asked him why he does this; the 150 mile training weeks, the 100 mile races, etc. I was just getting into trail running and curious to know how and why. It was the first time I’d considered a podcast. And this week, ~500 episodes later, he’s FINALLY on @ForTheLRPod!

In 2018 I ran the Manitou Incline with Zach Miller and later at dinner, asked how (and why) he runs 150-mile weeks. He put his fork down and talked for ten minutes. That dinner is what got me thinking about starting a podcast. Seven years later he’s lining up at Western States, self-coached, still refusing to overthink it. New from @forthelrpod: the runner who won’t optimize. forthelong.run/p/zach-miller…

Tommie Runz has been through harder things than a hundred miles. He decided a long time ago he would never back off just because something got uncomfortable. At the end of June, he toes the line at Western States 100. Full episode with Tommie on For The Long Run.

Happy Global Running Day! In her For The Long Run conversation, Erin Ton shared that what inspires her most is exploration. What's your reason for running?

Her surgeon asked why she runs so much. She was in a pre-op room when she answered him. That answer is in this week's episode of For The Long Run — along with 48 states, 17 Bostons, and running 52 miles in a single day. Listen wherever you get your podcasts.

Des Linden has won Boston, made Olympic teams, run across a desert. The thing she has quietly built that not as many people talk about: a budding media business, almost entirely on inbound, almost entirely on instinct. @des_linden on @LongRunLabs

Replying to @randizuckerberg
@randizuckerberg talked about how endurance sports completely changed her relationship with ambition because races like Cocodona force you to find a deeper reason to keep going when nobody’s watching. That applies to way more than running. Full episode on Long Run Labs.

Are you pacing/crewing/volunteering at Western States? My friends at @amazfitus want to hook you up with something special; the race isn’t as awesome without you! Let me know! And if you’re racing… want to share a nice gift with your pacers and crew?!
